1.Tsukiji (3rd Floor, 900 Pasay Road, Makati)
Most likely the best Japanese Restaurant in SE Asia. The interior is marvelous in its authenticity: its like you have been transferred to a place in central Tokyo – including the clientele which is almost exclusively Japanese. The minimalist interior has a splendid Zen- inspired rock garden that just breathes relaxation. All the food is imported straight from the Tsukiji seafood market in Japan (hence the hefty price card). The quality of the sushi and sashimi is beyond comparison to anything I ever tasted. I enjoy sitting at the sushi bar and watching these artists at work. The cchef makes his wasabi fresh on a daily basis.
If you are a Sake lover, this is the place. Ask the chef for the moonshine from his village in Japan. A sublime liquid to accompany the seafood dishes.
Don’t go here if you are on a budget. Expect to pay 2000 pesos per person.
2.Isshin (Pasay Road, Makati, on the other side of the road as Tsukiji, close to EDSA)
In my opinion the best price/quality Japanese. Their house sake is amongst the best I ever tasted and comes at 150 pesos a bottle. I normally go for the sashimi combination with extra tuna because their (local) tuna melts in your mouth.
If you have tempura or dumplings try to mix the chili oil, soy sauce and a little vinegar: a poignant sauce that complements both dishes exquisitely.
Average price: 500 per person.
3.Sugi (Greenbelt 2, Makati)
Great setting with high ceiling and windows, lampions hanging from the ceiling and a couple of private function rooms for larger groups.
Sugi’s menu is one of astronomical proportions. You could go every day for a year without eating the same dish twice.
They offer both local and imported fish. I opted for the local sashimi and sushi platter and both were mouthwatering. My princes had thick noodles in a succulent beef broth with tofu and an egg on top. That alone could of filled us both. The sake came in a wooden mini-barrel and the “glass” was a wooden cube. Quite odd.
Service is spot on in their authentic looking kimono’s.
Price: about 800 per person.
By no means I have tried all Japanese restaurants in Manila, so consider this list organic.

Can't comment on these because I'm not a fan of Japanese food but one of the things I like about Manila is the good quality of the international restaurants there. Well, let's face it, they have to be, don't they seeing as how Philippino food is so goddamn awful.
How do Pinoy girls stay so slim eating that rubbish?

You obviously haven’t eaten good Filipino food. The ginataan adobo manok I just had was superb. Next time you are here, make sure to try out Sentro at Greenbelt 3. Sublime Pinoy specialities.

Have to agree: I spent a little over a yera living in Manila/Bora with a Filipina GF and the food really is poor! yes there is some good stuff-- sinigang, lechon baboy etc etc, but common... Jolibee Cheese icecream???
having said that, I think Manila is the best place in Asia for food, mostly owing to their rich variety of good and cheap international cuisine

True, it is not as refined and flavorful as say Thai or Chinese, but it has a very distinct sensation to it that I personally love and cherish. Good Thai food is also more plentiful then Filipino. In Bangkok you can eat excellent food on every street corner, while the Pinoy food from footstalls is just average.
Anyway, if you want to sample excellent Filipino food, try these:
Kamayaan
(massive buffet, several outlets: one in megamall, one on the corner of Pasay Road and South Super highway)
Cabalan
(massive buffet – several outlets: one in Glorietta 3, next to Golds Gym)
Sentro (2dn floor, Greenbelt 3)
Masas (Greenbelt 2 restaurant passage, next to Magnum)

I found this to be an exceptional Japanese restaurant. We went twice for lunch because my friend wanted to try what I ate the day before, which was the Chirashi bowl. The kicker is the amount of Uni they give, a very large heaping. All this with Miso soup for 260p.
Also try the Asari Butter clams, manilla clams cooked in butter. 240p
Prices are higher for dinner. Lunch portions are perfect for what they charge.
