Yes ! I entirely agree. I've been broken in there for as long as it has been The Star of Light and I look forward to many years to come there, in which I will be continually broken in.
I've been around to quite a few other places in Thailand during my time and I'm always surprised that this thread keeps slipping down because I know that there is nothing and nowhere that can beat this place.
I know many of you miss the old decor. That's nothing. For those of you who do, you can always ask the girls to empty the rubbish bag of used tissues for you to lie down on while you are being seviced....that is if you are serious about a change of ambience.
Some of you miss the cut-outs at the bar. No problem. Just turn around in yourt swivel seat and have the lady kneel before you there in front of the bar. Why hark back to bloody curtains ? Unless of course your particular liking was the sweetness of knowing that your bj was being done unseen by other customers. If the lady is at the front of the bar on her knees, you can still carry on a normal conversation with your mate.
As for the brightness, you can always ask for the lights to be dimmed if you are shy or if you like that particular dark, murky atmosphere to enjoy the experience more.
The air-con is on usually at 26 degrees, but if its too cold, which the ladies always feel it is, ask the mamasan to make it less cool.
What I like about the Star of Light is that it is absolutelty unpretentious ; the ladies give whatever service you require but with such a generous attitude and a friendliness that money cannot buy anywhere else.
Of course if you go in and don't show respect and consideration, you will be serviced to your requirement, but after you are gone, you will be looked upon as the shit you are and the sad thing is that you will have missed out on one of the greatest experiences asia has to offer.
O.K. So the bar has had a lot of pressure from the boys in brown for the last six months, with the enforced refurbishment and style. And yes, the Star of Light seems to have been targeted by them because they knew it was the tastiest and juiciest plumb in the whole of Thai nightlife. Now they seem to be regreting it because they've squeezed too hard and there have been many reprecussions to this new-found greed, not least of which has been the fall-off of customers after 7 pm. mainly due to misinformation and false rumour, a lot of which was posted on this board by honourable members.
And yes, O.K. the action after 7 p.m. has to be brought to a near-by short-time room ( included in the price with no bar-fine as Joe Wood explained earlier in this thread)
or a local hotel with the necessary bar-fine at night, but apart from that, everything is as was,during the day.
No names, no pack-drill...it is filled with ladies of such generous attitude and friendliness, smiles and laughter and you will never never get ripped off there.
Sweet, Sweet Star of Light. may it shine on me forever.

Agreed. All the uncertainty posted during the July to October period didn't help.
But there is no need for customers to worry. The boys in brown don't look twice at them.
I, for one of hundreds of resident followers, follow the Star of Light. I wont go anywhere else. Lolitas don't have the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The Kangaroo girls go for every extra baht that they can squeeze out of you. And none of the other blow-job ) or as the girls call it : sucking ) bars have the friendliness and good humour that the Star of Light girls have.
Besides the few residents and tourists unwilling to fork out the extra 200 baht for the use of the room, maybe the overseas visitors have gleaned the impression that the police pressure would in some way rope them in. This is not the case. The police are not intersted in the customers at all. For they know that customers come and go and that amongst the lot of us good fellows there are some who shall remain nameless, who would have apoplexy if they thought that they would have to show their appreciation by a meagre tip of a few hundred baht. No. The police's attention is purely on the bar and the fact that they can milk it twice monthly for thousands of baht as an unoffical secondary licence fee to keep up the level of their pocket money on a regular basis is to them, not killing off the golden goose.
If they angled in on any customers they know that their level of unofficail income would drop heavily.
Most of the money that goes to the girls in private donations for services rendered off-site finds its way into the interior of Thailand where the girls' family villages are. If the boys is brown could make the logical connection, they are robbing the people of Thailand. Putting it another way, any policeman or public servant on the take is robbing the King of Thailand. Maybe if they thought about that and had to wear the T-shirt, they'd die of shame, for there is the real obscenity.
Long may the Star of Light shine ( on me ) and to the ladies of the Star who read this, a big thank you for always being so warm, wet and giving and fun to be with.
For those of you who have not had the pleasures of a visit, this is not a place where you find ladies pretending to be your potential girlfriend. They wont enter into the hypocritical lying of calling you the most handsome man in the world before going on to the next customer. They aren't going to strike a pose of Univeristy virginal innocence and tell you that you are the one. They'll strike you a deal for what you want and they'll give it to you with all the enthusiasm that you'd expect of anyone who was hot for you. They are golden. And what tops it, is that they are good-hearted and fun to be with. I love the place.

And as for Kangaroo, your wallet is the one that's going to be squeezed every moment that you are there.
Star of Light on the other hand ( or in both hands ) is entirely different. It's laid back. The girls are welcoming and warm. There's no pressure. It's completely relaxed and the girls are there to ensure that you get what you want and that you leave feeling good about the whole experience, wanting you to be a return customer.
And I am. I never go anywhere else. I'm spoilt for quality of service at the Star of Light and the girls are a delight to be with.
New Year's Eve was the best I've ever had anywhere. I just hope that I'll be able to top-up my bodily fluids in time for the next all-out party. I left thoroughly drained, milked and cared for, and wanting more. But I'm only one man and I can only come so many times in one night. I try to look after my health.

Ahhhhh, SOL -- really appreciate the tributes, guys. It was my first BKK experience, and what an eye-opener it was. Always stop there now 2-3 times each trip. (even if it did have to be in the afternoon last month...)
My favorite part is when a newbie walks in the door, blinking in the darkness, and sees what's happening, and what's happening is me!
Am I the only one who shouts "OPA!" at the appropriate moment?

No, it hasn't moved.
It got refurbished and renovated to comply with external pressure.
If you go to Patpong 2 on Suriwonge road, walk up the narrow covered walkway that runs right next to the soi.
This will take you about half-way down until it turns back into the proper soi of Patpong 2.
Don't take that turn right, into the soi, because you have just passed Star of Light on your left.
Just look at the table outside with some of the girls usually sitting at it, possibly eating or having a laugh. They'll welcome you and usher you in to heaven.
If you are coming from the Silom Road end, walk down Patpong 2, past the luggage cases, past the massage parlour and go-go bar, cross the entrance and exit to the car park, keep on walking past Foodland and the pavement / sidewalk takes a turn to narrow the roadway of the soi. Keep on walking on that side past a few bars. Then the pavement or sidewalk turns to the right of you to take you down the covered walk-way that runs parallel to the remainder of Patpong 2. At that junction, on your right you will see the Star of Light shining on you. The girls at the table outside will greet you and invite you in to heaven and to the temptations of their fruit.
Reward them handsomely, because they will give you everything that you desire and more. Good luck.
