I think you may have had bad luck Larry. The two ladies that serviced me did not rely too much on their hands, took my equipment quite deep, paid pleasant attention to shaft and balls, and one had a nice way of massaging the head with her tongue. I agree, most of the crew don't look that great, but there are some attractive ones there. I do regret my hang ups about "al fresco" action though, I know from repute that there are some attractive and accomplished girls at SOL.

I been twice to this bar and so far :
Pro : relaxed friendly atmosphear, good service from the girls.
Much cleaner than other bars offering similar service.
No loud music, prices are fair (tea 50 baht, beer 100 baht, ladydrink 100 baht...)
Mamasan even offered me one free beer on my first visit
Con : Not all the lady are good looking, some clearly being too old to work bar any more....but amongst the team there are also nice younger ones and they are at the moment receiving some fresh ones straight from Issan...2 arrived during the week-end and they look good.

Called in to check out the reports that Lollipop has recruited some new and younger girls. Yes its true a few new girls, the youngest being 22, the others seem older and fatter than the staring crew, so I was dissapointed that even the newest girl wasnt an improvemnet on the lineup. As usual everyone was friendly, decided to take my old regular who used to work at, Lolita's and Darlings as she is still the cutest there and probably near youngest. I walked by the front of Lollipop last week about 1 pm, must have been too early, as there were only a few girls in front, all doing their makeup, which I don't find very inspiring.
I presume things improve later in the day. Hopefully so.
I simply moved down to soi 8 and went to Lolita's, which had the usual ten or twelve girls in front, went with one I found quite attractive and enjoyed excellent service.
I would like to try Lollipop, perhaps someone can provide information about the hours during which I can reasonably expect to find a selection of girls ready for business rather than busy with makeup.

I see the usual suspects are still around:
Mr. Wood, who continues his post grad work, still the voice of reason on this particular scene. I'm hoping for a signed copy of the book, when it's published, and a ticket to the premier, when the movie opens.

Personally, I'm far removed from such convenient action, and out of circulation in any case: the great NE is not devoid of opportunities, but it is distinctly low-end, and/or declasse': has-been BKK bargirls in a few rundown beer bars, or unripe teenies from Laos, in depressing shophouses in the back roads, for the Thai masters. The more visible, but less fruitful farang bars are an eyesore, and the cause of a fairly palpable backlash among locals, but as usual, the real action is hidden, back-alley tuk-tuk and sand truck driver dominion.
Glad to see that there's some more choice in BJ bars, but I think the glory days are over. 10 years ago, K.Vichai had a group of well-trained, human, and pleasant girls at SOL. Even after his passing, a few generations carried on the tradition. But, hard to pin down when, the vibe just left. Rude treatment by those the hand (and other member) fed, and decreasing people skills have taken their toll...
Still, as someone points out above, you can't swing a dead cat in Lower Sukhumvit without hitting SOME kind of like service provider, so the wary can still avail.
