I cannot begin to guess as to what the explanation is to this incredibly different impression.
I've been to the Star of Light in the morning, the afternoon, the evening and at night on many days of the week and at weekends and have never got a smell of anything related to the toilet.
I haven't seen a girl approaching 50. A lot of them are happy, young, nubile and fun to be with.
The bar is always clean. The bar is thoroughly washed and cleaned, as is the toilet every day and frequently during the day and evening as well. The girls wash and shower frequently during the day and night. I don't know about the customers. From what I have seen of them, they are a clean, good bunch too.
Some uneducated guesses about this different impression.
1. It's psychological.
2. The guy has stuck his nose in the wrong place.
3. He's forgotten to wipe his own arse.
4. He took exception to the religious crap and being employed himself by the Vatican, is trying desperately to get back at someone or something.
5. He's employed by or supports some other blow-job bar and is envious of the outrageous success of the Star of Light.
6. He trod on something in the Pong on his way to the bar and it stuck with him.
7. He owns a Soi dog as a pet.
We shall see if his compulsive obsession leads him to attempt another entry.
Or maybe he'll just accept that there are differences in this world and he just doesn't happen to like this operation and he'll steer clear of it in future.
I hope he finds what he likes and sticks with that.
He is entitled to his opinion. But slagging off a bar and its patrons isn't a way of endearing himself to the board members, as some have learnt to their cost.
I am well aware that he is an established member of the board and of the Bangkok community of expats. That doesn't give him extra rights over anyone else. He might learn that, whatever his alcohol level.

Looks like there is only one way to resolve this. Barra, Seajohn, Debaucher, Coitus all need arrange to take one of the good Dr’s tours all on the same night. All can then see/compare/contrast. Then the good Dr can the act as referee/official and report back to the board and settle this thing once and for all.
Does the place stink like a toilet?
Are all/most/many of the service providers old/ugly hags?
Is this place worthy of newbie disdain or newbie admiration?
So when will it be boys. The truth is in the pudding as they say, and there appears to be some puddin a the SOL.

Simple, you do not have a nose and you are blind. OK I was there around 2pm, there was a man from India present and also an elderly man from England telling one of the BG's his life story of the wife, as though she was interested, poor girl. Two women over 50 were on the first lounge putting on the war paint and laying down like seals on that lounge.
I am not particularly interested in what others think about me, could not give a rats arse. Good idea IBF, you SOL patrons set up the time and I will be there and no cheating. No getting in early and cleaning up the place and pissing the 2 grannies off down the laneway.

I've formed my opinion of the Star of Light.
I like it.
Others have formed their opinions.
Some do like it.
Some don't.
They aren't going to change their opinion as to how they see the bar.
Neither will I.
They are entitled to their opinion.
I am entitled to mine.
I don't go into the bar to sniff and test and take away samples for analysis.
I don't go to the Star of Light to meet guys.
I go for the pleasurable experience.
I will continue to go for that.
But not for some concocted show-down at the O.K. Corral under the jurisdiction of some self-appointed unknown judicator.
I will continue to enjoy what I like in Bangkok.
I hope that you and your friends will do the same according to your preferences.
I'm not particularly bothered that some others don't share my enthusiasm.
I presume they have their enthusiasm for other places.
I'm not going to knock their preferences.
I have no need to.
I just don't like unprovoked attacks on any place.

Showdown – hardly. Just that as you point out people have recently been posting a pretty wide range of views of this place. And for any newbies that read the board and try to plan ahead a little bit, it would be helpful to get a clear picture of what they are walking into before they walk into it.
Self-appointed – I don’t think so. I have never even met the good Dr. Just seemed like a good fit for the circumstances. His tour group passed thru those hollowed grounds regularly.
Unprovoked attacks – I care to differ. It appears to me that the good Barra felt obligated to post to prevent anyone that has not been to this establishment from walking in expecting to find the Wizard and ending up finding the man behind the curtain.
Interesting to me how Barra has offered to met up with any of the supporters of all that is holey with SOL, and has yet to have any takers.
I have yet to grace the sacred halls of said establishment so I have no view either way. Simply looking to ascertain the truth about the SOL – so I do not have to get off my lazy a*s and take a look for myself.

Count me out of the judgement-tour. Square idea, unless it was a joke, probably was. I'm sure you guys have read my last post or my previous posts, and you've realized that I'm not very interested in comparing and contrasting in order for us to reach a final judgement on some place. That's impossible. Why repeat this? What's the point? I have been to a lot of places and will continue doing my thing at the places I frequent, and trying those attractive to me, avoiding others, as will anyone.
No one of us is going to stop going where they like, or start going again where they don't like. There are some extremely positive portrayels on this place, some extremely negative, and a few middle of the roads. I think by now the Unknown Newbie, since he has a brain, will be able to make up his own mind.
I appreciate balanced views about places and different opinions; I've said that many times and I haven't indulged in online arguments; not interesting to me. I don't consider myself arguing about this place or anyone arguing with me. I'm going to keep posting how I've been posting, as everyone undoubtedly will; and I don't see why, though I obviously really like SOL, I don't see why IBFarang has included me in a list of people who would want to take a nightlife tour with Dr Love. I hope the good Doctor will pardon me, but life's just too short.
But then again... ahem... I haven't tried it, have I? Moan. Well, I'm not going to put my money where my mouth is. I'm going to put it where someone else's is--much better.
I think some moderation in both views' extremes would be more informative--but maybe that's not each member of this forum's style. That's why it's always such a compelling read! Good. But I think this issue has been gone over too many times in the past few pages... Barrafish says he's so happy to be in Thailand, I'm happy, Coitus Continuous is so happy he's turned epiphanous, etc.
I try places, give them a fair shake, and if I don't like it I certainly don't hang around its thread. In fact I think you'll rarely read me putting down places but I try to present positive and negatives (except a few pages back when I called Lolitas boring--I'm afraid that may have riled Mr Barrafish, not sure. But you won't find me hanging around the Lolitas thread, on and on, trying to support my version of the truth--poet of the people or whatever--or the LB thread or any other thread I know turns me all the way off) as I see them. But maybe other guys got different styles, fine. Maybe SOL is dirty when B comes in and spic&span when CC cums in! 555 Barrafish, did you come in right after Coitus cum'd in?
My only real request is: Barrafish, will you please stop spending so much time reading/writing about SOL and get on with some adventurous interests we share--such as those two teen anal FL's???!!!!

So glad to hear that the war of the noses has cum to an abrupt halt.
Sensible guys.
Nothing is worse than having to justify your judgement after only a few olfactory whiffs.
Happened to drop by today and was being attended to on the bar stool, by a not-so-favourite of mine....................................
...........................when in walked two of the new girls, presumably from going short-time together with a customer.
I didn't ask.
Didn't have time to.
Just beckoned them to join in and down they went, relegating my not-so-favourite to a nipple sensation,whilst one licked my balls and the other polished with all her might.
Couldn't stand the punishment for too long
