The following is posted on Stickmans site, couldn't find any more info. I've fired a mail towards him, but wondered if any of the more seasoned pro's had come accross this area and the places the article elludes to ?
"The writer resided for some time in Samrong, ostensibly an outer suburb of Bangkok but actually a town within Samut Prakan province. I guesstimate that during my term of residency I saw no more than a dozen other farang men in the district.
On one occasion, a group of Thai male English language students, aged 20 - 30, took the writer on a "sight-seeing" tour of Samrong whereby they pointed out to me many of the barber shops, coffee shops, massage "shops", karaoke bars, "sing-a-song girl" bars
and gentlemen's clubs and "short-time" motels where sexual services were available at a cost ranging from 250 baht to 1,500 baht.
The students pointed out 17 such premises and told me that there were more. I would never have picked many of the "shops" to be brothels. "

Well, actually Samrong is not that far. It's the area next to Central Bang Na (looking from the other side... opposite Novotel Bang Na/Sri Nakarin).
Mainly a Thai scene (as mentioned) like many in Bangkok (Saphan Kwai etc).

Hi DL, It's not so much the location of Samrong, i've been there a few times for shopping, but I never noticed the 'many' brothels in shops and didn't notice any kind of night scene.
I also thought Samrong was on Sukhumvit road, after crossing over the Bangna Trad, heading out of town, the area about 3km further along the Sukhumvit where there is a big shopping mall on the right hand side ?
When you say its like Saphan Kwai, do you mean there are Thai style go-go's in this area ?
As you know I live about 10 minutes from this place and it would be handy if there was a freindly scene I could venture into locally.

With Saphan Kwai I gave an example of a Thai scene area. The shopping mall is Imperial Samrong.
These sort of Thai entertainment places are usually hidden behind restaurant storefronts.
I actually never felt the need to venture in these non-farang areas. As the writer said he was invited by Thai males.
Also myself I saw some Thai areas which are unknown to farangs unless you know them. ST hotels with underage girls etc etc.....

I've been to Saphan Kwai a few times and have never felt any unease at being there, I try to blend in a and behave as the Thais do in these sorts of places, full on farrang behaviour would probably cause an unwanted interest.
I'm not interested in the underage girls in St hotels, but if you have specific details on the other places you mention you have seen that would be good. So is my location of Samrong right, or is your's right ? I'm a little confused which area itis now !

Samrong is the one with the Big-Ass 4 way intersection South of Sukhumvit, straight down from Bangna-Trad hi-way.
It's on the way to the Crocodile Farm basically.
One of the biggest damn intersections I've ever seen outside BKK in LOS. You can't miss it.
I've certainly seen plenty of signs for Ahb Op Nooat (Bathe, Dry, Massage) out that way, but South of the Big-Ass intersection.
There are also plenty of signs in Thai stating "Good Tunes, Good Drinks" etc.
just go down there at night and the brothels will be lit up like Xmas trees.
No Joke, they use Xmas style flashing lights to drape over the signs etc. out front so you know what's up...

LY > I remember all that sort of stuff all the way along Srinakarin, after you pass Carrefour, Makro and Foodland, but don't recall the same views along the Sukhumvit after the Bangna Trad crossover.
If you genuinely are calling your driver, the traffic at that intersection is a nightmare, the roadworks where they are extending the express way to join the Pattaya one are a mess and cause huge snarl ups in the whole area between 4pm until 7/8pm, its mad. So leave early and I look forward to the FR !

LY, if you looking for that price range... try Yaowarat.
Remember, one night there with my German friend. After venturing around he spotted a girl sitting outside a Chinese ST hotel.
Friend: Hi, how much?
Girl: THB 200
Friend: Wow! Too much... THB 150
Girl: THB 180
Friend: OK.. but with a BJ.
I also had a massage in one of the massage parlours. Was quoted THB 500 / THB 800 with BJ. Got the BJ for the same price. One of the best looking girls I've seen in a while.
