Kevin Meacher
Hello to all members,

First of all I have to say I do know that there is an existing Town Lodge heading but at over eighty pages it is perhaps a bit large and now somewhat out of date. Hopefully posters will agree when they read my article that a new thread is more appropriate

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Kevin Meacher, I hail from England and am the new General Manager of Town Lodge Hotel and Toxic Club at the end of Sukhumvit Road, Soi 18.

I previously spent seven years in Pattaya operating a similar sized establishment on Soi Baukaow for the majority of that time. Despite having lived in Thailand for eight years permanently and visiting the country for over five years prior to that I have only a small knowledge of Bangkok itself therefore I am on something of a steep learning curve.

Some of you may know my name as the author of the book ‘Riff Raffles’ whilst a few will be even less fortunate and have read the damn thing! The story was of my first couple of years as an expatriate and dealing with Thai people, holidaying foreigners and the vast cultural differences I experienced. Looking back on it now I was incredibly naïve but the last five years have taught me more than perhaps I would have wished to learn.

I have continued writing despite my awful first attempt and this year spent eight months in Phichit province surrounded by rice fields, more rice fields and even more rice fields. I bathed in water taken directly from the farm pond and the toilet facilities are something I wish to forget as quickly as humanly possible! Still the serenity gave me time to think and I completed two children’s books which are now being proof read by my ‘agent’ in the U.S.A. I say agent to big myself up – really he is my best friend who is helping me out and trying to find someone daft enough to agree to publish my recent works! I have also written a less amusing tale of my life in Thailand from my first visit through to the time my divorce is actually settled – the courts settled everything in 2009 but to date I have not received one single baht of the award!

As regards Town Lodge there is a lot of work to do to get the hotel operating the way I wish. There is nothing major though just numerous small jobs and a few little tweaks are all that is required. The Toxic Club will also undergo a few changes and we hope by late October to introduce food and open the bar from midday for residents and non-residents alike. The food will be nothing fancy but basic Western and Thai and cuisine served in a comfortable environment away from the city masses. From early October we will have a satellite television connection and show all major sports such as Premiership Football. The Toxic Bar will be pleased to welcome non-residents along with residents of the hotel.

Once we have got ourselves sorted out I will put on a few promotions for those of you in Bangkok at the time and hope to meet some of you over the next few months. You are, however, welcome to pop down, have a beer and say hello at any time.

The Toxic Bar will also be available for private functions and can be booked by emailing me on kevinmeacher@gmail.com or by telephone to 0843 471 720. We have seating for over fifty people and can easily accommodate up to one hundred guests in the bar. Food will be whatever you require and should any specific drinks be needed we will do our best to provide them for you.

Over the next few weeks I will update the progress on our changes at the hotel and with the bar. Additionally we will be setting up a Facebook page and have regular pictorial updates as well as promoting our special offers. Other social media sites will be implemented as time progresses.

I will personally be here to welcome any of you who may wish to pop down to the bar for a chat or to watch the football. If you are interested in booking a room for yourself or a friend then simply email us at townlodge@gmail.com and be assured of an immediate response.

All of my best wishes to you all,
Kevin

I stayed there last month. It needs a LOT of SERIOUS attention.

Much more than "a few little tweaks".

Good luck.

Welcome.

Is RTB, better known as Curly, still associated with the Town Lodge? If so, in what capacity?

Best of luck from one who has stayed at the Town Lodge several times.

Best wishes Kevin I hope this kick starts your life in Thailand again. You once sent me a copy of Riff Raffles, and I did enjoy it.
Hope to pop in to Town Lodge sometime during the high season.

This place was once great especially when that guy from Phuket was involved but it went down fast. I hope you can bring it back to where it once was. Right now I would not recommend it but hopefully you can bring it back.. Good luck.

Thanks for the responses. Perhaps I was being kind just saying 'tweaks' but Rome, as it has been said, was not built in a day. We will stat with the tweaks and work upwards. Things will take time but I hope some early changes will start to see an overall improvement.

As for the previous GM he has left to go to a new hotel. I am afraid I do not know much about his new place so really am not in a position to comment.

Anyone who has any ideas they want to share with me then please feel free to give them. I am always pleased to receive feedback and whilst it is not possible to do everything people recommend nothing is ever ignored.

Once again, thank you for your kind wishes and looking forward to saying hello.

Kevin

Thanks for the information - fortunately, some of us are well-versed enough in "code" to know what that means.
