Quote: from paulo100 on 1:16 pm on April 30, 2005 There are three and although modern they are the slowest damn lifts I can remember using anywhere! I don't think I ever waited for less than 2 or three minutes for one to arrive.
Something missing? If you were put off by something missing there, then you must have some *awfully* discriminating taste. Try putting it into perpsective next time- may I invite you to try the Meritus Suites in the State Tower? http://www.bangkok.com/meritus/ By coincidence they also run three lifts. My money says you'll come away humbled.

Hi Skip It’s just that I left feeling as if I would not miss the place. Don't know if that makes sense but whenever I stay for number of nights somewhere I either leave feeling regret at having to go, or relief, or, as in this case, no real feeling at all. That's why I headed my post Emporium Suites, Disappointed. I am not saying it was bad in any way (other than the lifts). I think Magnum hit it on the head when he said it's not a hotel. I never would have thought it before this, but perhaps I prefer that feeling of being in a really good hotel where everything is laid on for you. I am sure you are right about Emporium being at the top end of any serviced apartments in Bangkok and I loved the position. Only problem was I spent an unplanned load of cash on clothes in the Emporium next door. (big sale on)

Skip, I stay at the moment at the Meritus suite and can't complain a bit about the lift, same as the several times when I took the same lifts to Sirrocco upstairs. They just serve about 15 storeys in the building and are amazing. I've seen a couple of people complaining about pressure in their ears coz of too much speed, nothing about the contrary. Besides will post an update about Meritus - not quite as good a location as Emporium tower though except if you work around Meritus, as I do. What are the rates you guys having in Emporium?

hi paulo, looks like some idiot named you as my twin. So, here I am saying, HI EVIL TWIN. By the way, in case you didn't know, he is very hurt and has a lot of problems with his life. Serious, I am not putting him down, people who know him personally can prove it. So sometimes, we don't know whether to pity his sorry ass or just go on smacking it. But whatever it is, he is improving day by day. this we ought to give him credit for. he isn't that rude or irritating anymore.

AmoresPerros From memory I paid about 2300 B per night for a short stay, which is good value considering the position.

Paulo Was it a suite or a studio?? Several good things to say about Meritus but they made some trouble last night when I came back along 4 friends so I checked out in the morning. How guest friendly is Emporium tower? I'm still looking for a upmarket place in BKK, preferably near Silom/Maesak for very frequent travels there. Needs to be VERY guest friendly. Any tip?

Totally guest friendly. Provisos 1. If a totally dodgy looking girl turns up at reception without you she might be asked to leave her id and might be escorted up to your room. 2. There is no direct route from the car park to your floor so your TG does have to go through reception.

Abrak, Looks good regarding guests... didn't quite get Skip's point on this thread... Do you mean Emporium suites are much better than Meritus, lifts consideration apart?? On the naughty part, Meritus has GREAT assets: stayed on the 56th floor with not a single building as tall as the suite's balcony across the horizon. Very good possibilities for sex there, most noticeable was when very drunk I came on a girl face while standing on the aircon outside. Lost balance but luckily fell on the safe side of the ledge !! ugh! Huge more than full size mirrors in both rooms. I hate to advertise the place too much after this morning but more than a bit of good in it!

Whatever Skip's point - I guess there is an issue with the lifts. Emporium Suites has only 3 lifts servicing about 18 floors - basically 26 to 42 with a couple of others. Each floor has about 18 rooms. The lifts are not slow (the rise from G to 26 must only take about 10 seconds) but they are over used. 3 lifts would be fine if Emporium Suites was a service apartment but it is more like a hotel with additional coming and goings of room service etc.. Bangkok is pretty bad for lifts. Places put in as few as they can get away with and Thais have a lot of patience. Obviously a hotel that starts its rooms at level 3 will have less wait time than one which starts at level 26. I have lived there for over year and dont find the lifts overly distressing.
