I stayed at the Four Seasons a few months ago and was quite disappointed. It seems that they do not maintain consistant standards globally. When I stayed at the Four Seasons in Carlsbad they are quite impressive.

The Four Seasons in BKK is quite dated and they have not upgraded the rooms probably since it was built. The rooms still have CRT TV's and old furnishings.

The kicker was the cleaning staff used a room next to the one that I was staying in as storage room for all the carts. So there was constant slamming of the door including 4:00 AM.

The restaurants are average, nothing compelling to make you want to visit them if you are a BKK resident and not staying at the hotel.

I greatly enjoyed the suites at the Shangri-La, especially at the Horizon level, which includes free wine, whisky, finger food, and internet in the Horizon lounge from 5-7 daily. Fabulous suites with great views of the river, and complimentary fruit basket and box of fine chocolates delivered daily.

Last time I stayed at the Four Seasons was about 9 or 10 years ago when it used the Regent name (Regent being the lower category managed by Four Seasons). I remember the Thai restaurant being deficient but the Japanese and Madison being very good. Pity they have deteriorated since then

Back then I preferred it over the Shangri-La and Hyatt (the other 5* where I used to stay). And of these other two, I liked better the Hyatt over the Shang -never been a fan of hotels by the river.

The Sunday brunch at the Four Seasons is still very enjoyable.

Don't particularly care about the hotel - I stayed at the Grand Centre Point right across the street, which was new, modern, and made for a very pleasant stay.

SaucyTim got me a great deal on their 1-bedroom suite.

for many many years now in asia I have only used shangri-la where possible
and for the things that are included yes its amazing
the rooms are also always great, I always get upgraded to a suite every stay anyway but there normal rooms are good too

i get everything free
broadband, breakfasts, laundry, transport etc
also they have drinks and food at lunch, drinks and food evening, and if u stay there enough and know the staff, the drinks dont stop, even up to 12 sometimes, with a bottle to take to the room
plus endless fruit baskets, chocolate, beer and wine in the room etc etc

i just love the shang for all round excellence

You've certainly added a new dimension to the criteria of hotel selection; just apply this criteria in reverse & inform this forum of the hotel(s) that YOU plan to stay in, most forum members including myself will avoid your place of habitation like the plague.
Good idea -- either that, or so we can call the appropriate delousing services to rid us of the pest before arrival.

Most good hotels should be providing this kind of service, particularly if it means retaining and attracting guests of the caliber they prefer...

QQ, DD and Doclub:

I really don't think you have to worry about what hotel I stay in. I own two homes here and am not reduced to having to rent a hotel room or one room apartment.

I am broken hearted you feel that way, QQ. LOL

Are you an English teacher by any chance?

Dafty, that was a nifty thing about delousing. Did you learn that in your seventh grade insults class?
