The manager of said hotel is not a guy. It is an excellent and very professional european woman whom I have known for a number of years and have the highest regard for. Very professional and you can really notice in a hotel that she is the manager. Things change for the better. So what "manager" did you chat with?! The general manager I know well would certainly not allow any cameras hidden in guests rooms. Something is strange with this story. Not that I am the least worried and will stay there again in the next few weeks. But it would be nice to know the whole truth about this story you entered here.

I have stayed at the GP many times over the years. Honestly, probably 50 times or more. I have had several occasions to look at the AC because it has frequently not worked to my satisfaction. Other than a lot of dust and unmaintained machinery I have never seen anything suspicious. However, one never knows. While I would not decide to stay somewhere else based on blonks post, I assure you I would pay attention.

Maybe the units are owned by multiple people, in a similar scheme such a time share (e.g. Marriott), and the hotel just manages and rents them to guests. Its a smart thing for a hotel to work like this. It uses other people's capital (the multiple owners) and it still makes profit from managment fees. Maybe not all units are owned in this hotel, so the front desk manager was asking which units have no owner. Maybe the onwers were sick and had it to hear that content of their units was stolen (e.g. TV, furniture, etc) and were charged money all the time. So since they do not trust the hotel (clear why) the hotel agreed to have an independent company to install the spy camera. Suggest still to stay there but pay attention and check and ask at the front desk. Does not hurt to ask.. and check right? Sounds possible to me, this is Amazing Thailand... ! Ap.-

Blonk, I am in no way suggesting you are not telling the truth. These days nothing would surprise me, least of all a monitoring camera. I am just saying I have never noticed anything but I will pay attention in the future. I feel bad for anyone who might have been watching my fat ass rolling around on the bed.

I called Grand President on telephone earlier today. I asked for reservations. I enquired about the rates and the guy gave me these: B2500 for standard room, B3399 for suite in Tower 1 and B3699 for suite in Tower II. I casually asked for Indian room (as referenced by Blonk). At first the guy stumbled, "I am sorry sir..?" I repeated my query again, "do you have Indian rooms.. I was informed there are Indian rooms in your hotel.." The reservation guy replied, "We can of course give rooms for India people." I asked again do you have so-called Indian rooms. He said flatly "No." My question, Blonk : How do we get to these Indian rooms, if the reservation staff don't understand ? Why do you refer to them as Indian rooms? Also, after having a suite in Tower II, I am intrigued that you say you were "given a free upgrade" to an Indian room in Tower I. Both the rooms and the suites in Tower I are priced lower than the suites in Tower II. How could moving to Tower I be called an upgrade? And why can't the reservation staff understand "Indian room?" Now, coming to the meat. I asked him casually "can you give me a room without camera?" From his startled reply I thought he was almost angry. He asserted rooms do not have camera. "We have camera only on floor for security, not inside the rooms, sir." I persisted and told him I read on the internet there are cameras in your rooms and he denied it. I dialled the reception again and spoke to the lady and enquired if the rooms are owned by outsiders. This question was not understood by her although she spoke good english. I asked about the cameras and she sounded shocked too.

Does the Grand President have a section of 'condominium' type rooms as well, that are individually owned? That would clear up that question.

I suggest the brave Mr. Blonk can give us his real name(you may PM me if u dont want it open). Here is the letter to my request. This is from the general manger: Dear Mr. XXXXXXX Thank you for your email and valuable feedback. In order to ensure security to our guests during their stay with us, the Grand President has security guards on duty 24 hours and CCTV cameras in all public areas and elevators accessing the guest floors. We can assure you that no cameras are installed in the guest rooms as indicated on the blog as this would obviously serve no security purpose and would be against the law. We have rechecked all details of our guests who have stayed at the room #2221 over the last few weeks and have not found any guest moving from this room to another room during their stay. Perhaps you would be so kind as to advise us the name of the guest posted in the blog or at least give us the name of the blog so that we can see if this person actually stayed with us at all as it seems to be either the result of some major and serious misunderstanding between the guest and one of our employees or simply a joke, of very bad taste obviously as damaging our reputation. Thank you very much for your kind assistance in this matter. I will give them the link to this blog.
