Yes, this is a pretty common occurrence. But, the Executive Lounge staff is not shy in enforcing their dress code (whatever their current code is). The EL dress code has been recently relaxed and more accommodating to the tourist segment. The Conrad perceives itself as business hotel with all the Embassy's nearby hence the dress code. Though, on one occasion I saw a punter bring his favorite Ladyboy up to the EL for cocktial hour.

Does anyone have an opinion of hotel v residences...
Am thinking of the latter for a change.

OK - I will answer myself, having booked and stayed here now. The residences are just adjacent to the main hotel, with an easy access walkthrough from the main hotel lobby to the residences reception.
The residences are very similar to the hotel rooms, in feel, although you get a separate lounge, small kitchenette etc. Bathrooms not quite as modern as the hotel bathrooms (I seem to recall), but you still get your yellow duck (which the girls love).
You get 2 flat screen tv's, ps3, and I do like the opportunity to chill in the lounge, with the feel of having more space. The lifts are almost instantanious and I have yet to see another resident whilst here. Your lift takes you direct to the pool also. Housekeeping is the same. My only critisism is that wardrobe space is extremely poor, with nowhere near enough room to hang clothes if you have a lot of clothes.
Residences are very guest friendly and my "friends" have not been asked to give ID at night, which is great if you do not like the walk of shame, but beware if you are new to this, as you will have no comeback should you get turned over.
All in all very happy and relaxed here, although walk to BTS is about 10 minutes.
