bucksfun,

Can you post specifics on how your GF was mistreated? I too am a HH Diamond and I'd be interested in how Conrad (mis)treats TGs as I've stayed there before and have not had a similar experience.  In fact, the Exec Floor concierge went out of her way to greet my TG by name each and every time.

If what you say is true, I'd be on the phone to the GM in double-quick time - I've spent too many nights away from home to earn Diamond and I rightly expect good service everywhere I go.

Similarly, I've status with Marriott as well and I recently took advantage of their 1500 point offer (at the JW) for spending 10 minutes listening to their timeshare sales pitch.  I brought along a TG and I thought she was treated pretty well too. The salesperson spent a lot of time with her personally trying to convince her of the merits of the Phuket timeshare.

I have nothing but praise for Julie and all the staff on the exec floor my big problem was in the chinese restaurant when there was a conversation in thai between a waitress and my gf which caused her quite a bit of distress (basically the gist of it was they were asking for her personal details, kindof like an ID check).

This was the first time my gf had visited the hotel and actually the restaurant had no reason to make any checks of my gf, since I didnt make a reservation and until I paid the bill they didnt know I was staying there. Ŭ My assumption is that the waitress in question was just being deliberately nasty to my gf.

My normal response when faced with this situation would be to go ape**** but TIT, that doesnt necessarily help, and I think my gf would have been mortified by calling more attention to the situation. ŬI did however raise it with the Exec concierge, but never received a satisfactory explanation for events.

That was really the only problem and I was grateful afterwards that none of the staff at the Conrad made any attempt to check her ID (which probably would have caused more upset, but would at least perhaps have been more understandable). ŬIt did however make me constantly uneasy about how my gf was being treated and I think I have explained the reasoning for this uneasiness in my earlier post.

I guess the point of my original query was to identify the best approach with the hotel from the outset to get them to treat her properly and allow me to relax and not constantly walk on eggshells and if another hotel might be a better option.

BTW Piston I would be interested to hear what your upgrade experience at the Conrad has been as a Diamond HH member to see if it tallies with mine (contact me by PM if you like).

Conrad? Upgraded to a suite=no.  Upgraded to Exec Flr=100%. This is good enough for me considering I've always booked at the cheapest rate possible (e.g. the recent $78 AAA rates).  If you are collecting statistics, all my stays have been revenue-stays. I don't do award reservations at the Conrad BKK because it's not worth it, they are now Cat 5(ridiculous), and never do PS. With hotel loyalty programs I've learnt one golden rule: never expect-never disappointed.

With Marriott, I was recently upgraded to a Suite at the Resort & Spa in July. Corner room on the 4th floor (North Wing?) nearest to the river.  Two four-panel sliding doors to the right and in-front of the bed. Wrap-around balcony and a separate dining area. Left the glass doors open and slept with the wind blowing on my face. Heavenly.

Quick question about the Sukothai. I've never stayed there (more than happy with my regular hotel, the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit), but have heard that it's really nice and more upscale. I'm planning a trip in early 2012 with some friends I want to impress on their first trip to LOS, and was thinking of giving it a try, so looked it up and was surprised to see that its rates are similar to the SGS's (always thought it was much more expensive, and being not as well situated re the BTS, gave it a miss on previous trips).

Am now thinking of trying it out at least this once. Any experiences of the place, service, food, etc., would be welcome. I notice the information on this thread and elsewhere about the hotel is sparse and dated, so recent accounts would be appreciated

Specifically, is the hotel guest friendly, assuming one books a double room to avoid the hassle of unwanted questioning? Can one order a girl to the room and have her come up without being molested by hotel security on the way (the SGS has no problems on this score). Finally, is the hotel worth the price, in terms of quality, location, etc.?

Thanks for your inputs.
