Just spent 3 days in the place a week or so ago. I had printed out Tim's' voucher(s) so check in was OK. A guy was manning the desk when we checked in. I have to agree with everything said. The downer, for me, for the place is the bloody water pressure/hot water in the shower. It ebbed and flowed like some fast moving tide.

You are right about the shower being a bit strange. I turn on the hot water, wait for it to stabilize in heat, turn on some cold water, wait for the right temp. And then, after about 5 minutes, the temperatures start to fluctuate. Strange.
But, since I just came in from Ubon where we use cold water and a bowl to pour it over you, it is certainly an improvement...

I lost my key card yesterday (actually, had it stolen, but that's another story).
Had Darjelling invalidate that key card and issue new ones. They said they would charge me 500b. I didn't argue, but I sent an e-mail to saucytim at his travel agency.
He called the manager and had the charge reversed. Thank you, saucytim. Great Customer Service.

Final Comments On Darjelling Stay:
1) There were a lot of staff around. They were all helpful and nice.
2) We first saw the Darjelling soon after it opened. Now, after more than 1 1/2 years of operation, I can already see the deterioration. Some mildew in the bathroom, bottom door strip loose, various other small signs of decay.
3) We saw the Indian owner. I guess he comes and checks the place regularly. He speaks excellent Thai (according to my wife). He was asking about the door being locked late at night - he wanted to make sure the staff always locked the front door late at night. The 3 nights that I came in after midnight the door was always locked (and the staff available on the other side to open it as soon as they recognized you).
4) The fluctuations in water pressure and temperature was an annoyance. There was also occasional "water hammering". Must be some pipes not properly strapped down. I took several hot baths, which were nice. Having the electric water heaters met I always had enough hot water to fill up the tub.
5) Check-out was quick and simple. As promised by saucytim and the manager, we were not charged for the lost key card.
Overall, an excellent value for the price. Location is good, room is fine given the price, staff pleasant, breakfast fine. And, I would certainly use saucytim to book this or any other hotel that his company supports.
