Hey...sometimes it's a tad bit on the humid side to go tromping about in the middle of the day. Besides, some people like to relax in the sack first thing in the morning/afternoon watching a little bit of the tube with a cold beer.

Hi Everybody!!!

I will also vote for this hotel, though for different reasons.

My last trip I stayed in Majestic Suites.

I am from India and was not particularly earmoured about the Continental Breakfast served there. It was nothing much to brag about.

I would always prefer a hotel without Breakfast so I can land up in an Indian restaurant and partake what I like best. On Soi 19 you have Dosa King which serves a reasonable fare and is walking distance from this hotel.

Directions are easy, say ROBINSONS!!!!!!

Cell phones are a novel idea and is certainly worth it.

Internet connection in the room helps in members keeping in touch. Carrying a laptop all the way to Bangkok is a hassle. Will hotel provide one???

The main plus above everything is parking is not a problem for taxis, compared to Sukhumvit.

The problem of discreetly bringing TG/LB is also sorted out due to seperate entrance.

Discount for BTF members is an added bonus. Is it an inagural discount or will it continue? I do not plan to come for another 3 to 4 months.

My vote goes to this hotel for my next trip.

Channels to add:

Channel V
Deutsch Welle
Rai (Italian)
TV5 Asie (French I think)
Any one of the Spanish channels
Any one of the Portuguese channels

Gosh, if any number of these suggestions do get implemented, d'ya reckon room rates will go up?

Apologies for changing the subject slightly, but has anyone stayed in both the President Solitaire and the Swiss Grottino?

And if so, is the extra dollars for the PS worth the difference? After reading this thread I emailed Grottino and booked 13 nights in July for the price of 10 nights - a great deal

So now I have booking at both places.

Views anyone?

I have stayed in Solitaire and have visited Swiss Grottino, both are very good. Solitaires rooms are special but the food marginal! The staff are great. Swiss seems to be run by good people but the rooms are at a different level, they looked good & were very clean but Solitaire is extra good!

Maybe a stupid question, but I do not see it got mentioned in this thread or at the web-page: They got a fridge (minibar...) or smillar - to have some cool beers in place... ?

Going for a 3 week trip in July. Planning to book 7 days in Grottino, then head to Pattaya for some days. Then maybe return to BK; then I will book either Solitaire or Grottino (based on my first experience).

Sounds like a plan?

Yes, there is a small fridge and a minibar. There's a family mart (like a 7-11) right at the entrance of the small soi, a very short walk from SGR.

Am staying at the Grottinio at this time. The staff including Peter who is running the place while Daniel is in Switzerland has been more than courdial and helpful.

DSL was knocked out couple of days ago and is now fixed, so any one that tried to book then can get through now.

The breakfast for a big eater is modest but the bread that comes with is worth having your breakfast in the hotel resturant. Didn't eat lunch or dinner there but looking at everybody's plate as I passed thru made my mouth water.

The place looks a little unconspicous from the street and the girls I brought in looked a little disapointed at first, but were impressed when they saw the room.

Your room card key opens the door at night but the security guard always comes to open the door when he hears the click. One thing I will talk to Peter about is that the guard just says welcome and smiles. This makes it difficult to get a freelancer to cough up her ID if you want her to. Maybe just saying ID to the guard could prompt him to ask for the card.

Asoke, Robinsons and the Skytrain are only a few hundred yards away. The Family Mart at the corner has almost the same items as 7-11 less than 50 yards away.

If you're not into hanging around large hotel lobbys and lounges, this is the place to stay.

If your going on to Pattaya, Peter can book a private Volvo limo for 1000 bht directly to your hotel and can stop enroute for whatever reason with no problems.

If you take a taxi here just tell the driver Soi 19 and as he drives up the Soi point ahead to Family Mart then down the alley, easy with no confusion.

The frig is well stocked with water, beer and soft drinks but the snacks are limited and no little bottles of liquor.

Wooden shutters keep out the noise and light and easy to overlseep. Remote contol on the AC, and room safe a plus.

Peter said check out time if flexable and they will work with you if you have to leave later in the day. Just have to be out so that housekeping can clean the room b/f they quit at 5pm.

I know some of this has already been said before but
couldn't stop rambling on.

Hope this helps.

I agree with Happyface. Swiss Grottino is not much to look at from outside or their lobby / restaurant. But what made it for me was the superb level of service & rooms that compare with hotels that charge double the price. One example of the superb service Daniel & co provide; I asked Daniel if I could use a phone to make a local call ( no phones in room yet but will have in a couple of weeks ). He gave me his own mobile to use, I tried dialling some girl but she didn't pick up as she was fast asleep. A couple of hours later she calls back so Daniel rushes to my room to hand me the mobile & doesn't even accept any money for the calls.

This is the sort of reason why so many people rave about this hotel !
