I wanted to book a double room some days ago by online booking. I received an answer that due to hotel policy, as one person I could only book the single room. So advance booking of a double room is not possible with the Manhattan Hotel.
If I can book only the single room, do they demand a joiner fee for bringing in guests? I some hotels they do if one only books a single room?

Use a different online booking. They are feeding you a bunch of crap they probably use for all their hotels genarically.
If you don't book a double, and the good sites to book through don't require a second name, you will be hit with a joiner fee.

Finally, I was offered the possibility to book a double room as Mr. and Mrs.
Anyway, I didn't take the Manhattan for other reasons.
I have seen the rooms and they are large, clean and o.k. I believe the Manhattan offers good value for money. But, what I disliked was that the hotel is so big with so many families as customers. Also, the nearer surroundings are not so good. A lot of touts and hustlers are hanging around that corner.
A hotel like the Stable Lodge in Soi 8 is much nicer. I would prefer the latter one to Manhattan. Of course, that's only my personal opinion.

I stayed there a couple of weeks ago. A nice lobby and good breakfast buffet. A clean room with strangely mottled/dirty walls, it was at the back (despite requesting one at the front in my online booking) and there was loud construction noise all day from about 7.30am which ruined any hope of getting some decent sleep past that time. I won't be staying there again.

When you get to the hotel, request a room in the front. They are usually not too busy, so one is available. Even if there are families there, it doesn't bother me, but I've never seen that many.

I was planning to stay at Manhattan in a week or so, but remembered that there was going to be a new block going up somewhere along that stretch of Sukhumvit. Can anyone confirm if there is any construction going on near to Hotel Manhattan at this time and if its close enough to cause a noise problem?
