Sex tourists are small fry in the hotel business, even in the Nana area. The Amari Boulevard is girl tolerant, not friendly, for sure, but the more of us that use it, the more friendly it will become. I have stayed there many times and yes, I have 'jumped through hoops' as someone put it, but only because the gain outweighs the pain. Once security know you, no worries at all. Your lady will receive the same treatment you do, in every regard. The manager is NOT against mongers, email him direct if you have questions. The location of this hotel is second to none and the service/facilities are great, if a little overpriced. Come on guys, use a little intelligence and this hotel will be totally girl friendly before you know it. It is in our interest to operate smartly, why create waves? Just my tupence worth. Tuck

Quote: from Adventure Guy on 2:53 am on July 31, 2006 WOW - what an INCREDIBLE hassle that would be for such a tough guy.
I don't claim to be any tough guy. But I did stay at Amari once and they hassled me when I tried to bring a girl up to my room. They charged me 800 baht to bring her up with me. (and I was just going for a short time) I normally stayed at the Sheraton or Marriott (both give me no problem at all when I bring girls to my room). But they were booked so my travel agent asked me to try Amari. When I checked in to the Amari, the hotel didn't mention anything at all that I would have to pay to bring a girl to my room. I even asked them when I checked in "is it ok to bring a girl to my room if I want?". Their response upon checkin was "yes". I got to the room and was very happy with what I saw. It was nice. I thought maybe I had found my permanent place to stay for my trips to Bangkok. My opinion changed drastically later that night. That night, I tried to bring a girl to my room and I found that they had lied to me when I checked in. They stopped me at the elevators and asked me to pay 800 baht to bring the girl up. When I confronted them with the information that I had asked upon checkin if it was ok and they said yes, they said "Yes, it was ok to bring her up, but I had to pay 800 baht". It was this type of underhandedness that I did not appreciate. This is Bangkok for christ sakes! They know what goes on. A single businessman checking in alone in Bangkok should at least be forewarned about the hotel policy of hassling people who want to bring a Thai girl to their room. I discussed the situation with the manager and told him if he wanted to charge me 800 baht to take that nice young lady to my room for an hour or so, I would pay it, but I would never stay at his hotel again. He charged me the 800, I paid it then checked out the next morning and moved to a different hotel. The Amari obviously cares little about their guests or ethics in general. Suffice it to say, I won't be giving them my business ever again. I told them so at the time and I am a man of my word. Come to think of it, If being a man of my word means I'm "tough", then I guess I am tough. It's unfortunate for them because I do alot of business in Bangkok and I need a hotel room in Bangkok at least 50 nights out of every year. One night in the Amari was one night too many in my opinion. And yes, I do know that they get business from other types of tourists and businessmen. But I guarantee you that they have already lost thousands of dollars from business lost from myself and my business associates. I spread the word as much as possible for people to avoid that hotel.

LFL, Please tell us where they lied or misled you. They answered your question's. You are a businessman, travel to LOS 50 times a year. Obviously you appear to be very successfull, congratulation's I applaud that. I am not a business person and received minimal schooling, but would have thought a person with better IQ than myself would have asked the simple question like I normally do, " Is there a fee involved and how much for each girl". I guess I must be a dummy for asking the question.

Hi to all, I don't know if the amari of pattaya is linked with the one of bkk but I had exactly the same terrible experience with a 800 baht charge to bring a lady and 1600 (!!!) when bringing 2. No need to say I will never stay anymore in an amari hotel!

It is interesting indeed to read all of guys post about hotels and in this thread Amari Boulevard. It is not only this particular hotel in the Amari group which do this, all of them do. It has been their policy to discourage overnight/shorttime guests for many many years now. Although I regard this extra joiner fee thing as total crap in respect of you guys. You already pay for a twin/double, why have to pay more for a joiner? Only in Thailand my friends. However, I do understand that some hotels want to keep their property of a more family orientated nature. That is up to them. I dont think they will lose any sleep over you guys boycotting their hotel. Amari are popular with tour operators and can get more families to stay there. Why should we stay there and receive negative chemistry from the hotel staff, when there are many other guest friendly properties around? Alternatively we could follow Tuck's example if need be. An obvious sign of his experience in Thailand. At the end of the day. this is Thailand, and you have to go along with the flow. Accept that this is their country, and sure you will have a great time. A shame as the Amari group do have some lovely properties in nice locations.
