I have never been able to get a room there. Every time I call sorry no rooms for those nights. No wonder they are raising the prices. If I was sold out every night I'd raise the prices too.

Looks like the place is primo popular given a) the rate increase; b) difficulty in getting reservations; c) the rave reviews.
Glad I placed that reservation back in May...re-CONFIRMED btw  ....better safe than sorry.

Just back from a ten day Thai trip in bangkok and Hua Hin.
I think it would be unfair not to mention that my stay at the Swiss Grottino was absolutely spot on. I made a reservation a couple of days in advance for a two-night stay and found getting a room no problem with no credit card or deposit required.
Arrived at 8pm and daniel was straight out of the restaurant to help me carry my bags to the room. Top service from a top man!
After a couple of nights hitting Soi Cowboy and Nana (ah the memories!), I was due to leave at around 11am and went to check out. Daniel wasn't there but the 40-something lady in the restaurant with excellent English was happy to help me and it was Baht3k and out of there. No hassle. No problems.
Around a week later, I returned on spec to see if there were rooms. Again no problem and upstairs I went.
I'd lost my mobile a few days earlier and asked (as I read that CDNguy had been afforded the same luxury) if I could borrow a mobile. Within two minutes, I had a charged phone with around ten minutes of local call credit on it. Deposit required? Not a bit of it.
All I can say is that they run a very cool and laid back hotel with clean, well appointed room, excellent staff and winning location. And with those wooden shutters you could sleep all day and never know what time it was!
Final point: on checking out for the second time, daniel produced a couple of mini bar bills which were for the room I had been in (#32) for the first two nights. As they included two cans of Schweppes, I knew they couldn't have been mine but offered to pay anyway as they were on my room and not that much of an expense. Daniel wouldn't hear of it.
"We should have sorted this out earlier so it's not down to you," he said. "We are trying to sort out our little problems - and things like this just need tightened up by us."
As I said, classy people. Fine hotel.

Grottino update:
As of Oct 21, 2004, there is some construction going on down the street, It's not like there is bombs going off or anything but the whine of radial saws can be heard starting at about 8:30AM.
Overall I like the place, though the mattress is a bit hard for my liking.

Same here, the bed was hard. 2 of my TGs felt the same way, although they liked the room, and the hallway instead of a lobby to walk through.
I was on the 5th floor, and didn't notice any noise from outside construction.
Although I won't be staying there again, I do recommend it to anyone that likes a nice clean, discrete, quiet, very girl friendly, small hotel, and some pretty good swiss food. Danial was nice enough to loan me a cell phone to use, just ask.
