Sent Daniel an email today, Sunday, asking for a room 3/24-29. He replied within couple of hours. On Sunday! One more set of quick emails & everything is done. Wow! I was getting cold feet about my reservation at Bally's Studio Suites & their committment to complete girlfriendliness. I'd emailed them & they said don't worry, that they accept 2 people/room. Fine. But I want to bring 2 girls most times. Now maybe my fears are totally unfounded. Maybe would be no problem whatsoever at Bally's. But I thought, "Why even take a chance?" I'm able to get to BKK so infrequently, last time was 1 1/2 years ago, that I just do not want to screw around (with the hotel, that is!). Anyway so I'm gonna be doin' Eden, Baron's, & Cowboy Street big time. Also be at Washington Square (Not really my cup of tea, but got 2 buddies who like to hang out there. Hey, Bourbon Street food ain't bad.) & some 22nd Street Beer Bars. Probably give Nana a miss. Enjoy it, of course, but only 5 nights isn't much time. And I DO prefer Soi Cowboy. Definately goin' to give the Pong another big miss. Do Mojo Blues for ribs, Sukhothai for Thai, Mrs. Balbirs for Indian, & the Seafood Market (Yeah, I know all about it, but I'm a fool for king crab, what can I say?). Man, just 10 days to go. Can not wait.

If you are from Texas and are going to eat at the Grottino, be very careful. Part of my scalp is still hanging from the ceiling there.

stayed there 5 months ago. generally the place's fine, except 3 things : 1. the shower - many times u need to wait 4-5 minuts till get hot water. 2. no phone at rooms ( only by special request ), so how can u ask for room service if u r at bed with your tilac ?! and it's also a problem if you need to get calls from outside. 3. rooms at the back side of the hotel are facing the noisy and smelly Robinson parking lot, so better ask for front side.

I've asked for an odd-numbered room because earlier on this thread someone mentioned that these rooms are a bit larger than the even-numbered rooms. I think (?) the odd-numbered rooms may face the parking lot. Can anyone confirm? If they do face the parking lot, though, you're saying that they're smelly? Even with the windows closed?

I have stayed there many times no problems at all. My Brother just spent a total of 21 nights recently again with no problems. Just 2 weeks ago I had 6 other friends stay there for three nights. No problems... And quite soon I have some more relatives arriving in Bangkok. The Grottino is MY preferred choice of accommodation for them. If you don't like it just move out! Its that simple... I am not saying the Grottino is perfect but they are bloody good at what they do... TC. ps. I do have to complain though. The TV is in the corner on the left of the room, and I would prefer it to be on the right side. I will have a word...

I'm not so worried about it. I've read nothing about any smell anywhere else on the thread. Just wondering if he was talking about lots of dumsters right outside or something. Thats all. Since I'm not there yet, I could always request a room on the other side. And you're right, of course, I can always request a room change once I'm there if I think there's a problem.
