Whilst in Bangkok the Landmark is my preferred hotel but it is not always possible to get a good deal there, the rates seem to be steadily increasing due to the hotels popularity.
There are a couple of agencies I have come across in the past that do a stay 4, pay 3 policy.
Well my luck changed yesterday and I unearthed a great deal for the Landmark, with airline-network.co.uk
It works out at 2728 baht per night for a double inc tax but no breakfast.
Most of the time I am not up for brekkie anyway so that doesn't bother me.
If you are staying less than 4 nights it works out around 3637, ba.com are the same, still a good rate.
The standard rooms may be no better than the Majestic Grande but the location is.

Sorry but this is NOT a first class hotel. Sure the reception is impressive and so is the breakfast but the rooms are just too small compared to similar priced rooms elsewhere. All too often I read about people paying silly prices here. The "standard" double occupancy room sare available for £40 a night or less (2800 approx) but you could get a suite in many places even for that price.
One saving grace is the location but it is VASTLY over-rated. I have stayed there twice when I have been on "business -paid" packages but having tried many other hotels in bkk this would definitely NOT be even a "top-ten" choice.

I have to say that I disagree, I very much like the Landmark, and always stay there. It's correct that prices have been going up and there's a problem with to many people in the executive lounge, but otherwise I think the hotle is great and have a even greater location.
On the other hand you mention better hotel's and this would interest me: What would be your choice, min. 4 star, GF and good location - all in package of 3-3.500THB net. as max. price

Echoing viking77 comments, there is nothing better location, value, and GF wise than the Landmark. I was paying about 3300 baht incl tax and breakfast for two, and was upgraded free to a suite. Even without the upgrade, I have been staying there many times, always getting a very good room, not to mention service and breakfast. For me, the breakfast is the dinner time (literary time wise) as I like to eat less at night (not good to do action when you are full with a heavy dinner..  snakes are all I eat at night and coffee / cake / burger for late lunch. I see Gus got a fantastic deal as you have mentioned it too at 2740 baht/night. Prices have gone up for some reason at other hotels, which in some cases are now as higher as 30% or so. If you talk about a suite such as at the Grand President or the Royal President, for about 3000 baht or so, I would agree with you, that a suite there is bigger that a standard room at the Landmark, but there is nothing comparing the loctation of Landmark. So if you want to walk or don't mind depending on a taxi/tuktuk to be at some end of a soi like the Royal President. Breakfast, and the very superior facilities which for me are a must (pool, gym area, etc.) and location is what I think worth more than enough a 2700 baht price. You wont find this price for a 5 star hotel in Bkk, except for service apartments (they are not 5 stars) as I have mentioned above. Just compare a place like the Davis and tell me would you stay at such a location even if you get a suite? Not me...

Would snakes be a good addition to a low carb/low fat diet???

I highly recommend a Vietnamese Cobra,, choose the angryest snake in the box,, said snake will be cut across neck and blood drained into glass, peice of guts removed ( I believe it is the appendics ) and added to said glass. Hold nose and drink to completion. Snake will be bar-b-qued for you and tastes a lot better than the blood appendix mix. 30 minutes later a very nice but unusual experioence is coming your way,, last's 4 - 7 hours.

I have stayed just about everywhere in Bangkok. Slumming it during my college days to the best of the best, i.e Oriental, Shangri-La, Penisula. However, in my opinion the Landmark is my favorite. With Marriot a close second. First, location, location, location. I know the people there but still don't blink at $180 US for 29th (top) floor three room suite. To and from airport in Limo,
free Hi-Speed, breakfast, happy hour drinks.etc. etc. Tell me a better deal in the world. C'mon guys we are on vacation. I have brught three TGFs in tow at 1AM without a glance. Also the tailor in the basement, Nobleman & Son, will prepare the perfect cruising fabrics overnight. Looking to save pennies, wrong place. Got Visa Gold, look no further.

Following my recent stay at the Landmark I was well satisfied with things, especially those cute bell boy (girls) on the front door.
The location is great but I do feel that the rooms at JWM are just a little better furnished.
I see the Bangok Post were running an advert for a new hotel near to soi 6, The Sofitel Grande Sukhumvit, guess it opens later this year.
