I stayed at the Grottino last night and will again after the weekend. I'll put more into an FR later but for right now, let it suffice to say that the place is nice and the service is friendly. The late night guard is also a good guy. More later.

This place is way too expensive for what it offers. I cannot understand why it has so many comments on this forum. Better try Manhattan, Ambasaor even Nana or Regency suites rather than pay 50% more for this hotel.
Totally not worth it IMHO

I do not intend to waste 1800 bhat per night staying there. That is the point, there are much better places for less money. Manhattan, Majestic, Regency Park, all around 1000-1200 bhat and much better. If you must, you can go to plaes such as Nana or Ambassador, though these are a dump. To pay almost as you would at places such as Novotel Lotus, for a room at this little hotel is not a good deal. It was hyped too much by some members on this board, which I suspect have some interest in this place (financial wise) although they stated they have none (e.g. rtb who now advetrises yet other places he probably has a share in as few membes suspected). At 1800 totally not worth it trust me I have looked it up and was there, no wont take a room there unless its under 1000 bhat / night tops.

I have stayed there many times. Thumbs up from me 100%. I have stopped in the suit in the Conrad to the Crown on soi 8, but I really like this hotel. I am sure that there are members on this forum that have a financial interest in the hotel. If you read very closely to allot of what is on here there are an amazing amount of adverts running around most of it under different names/code etc. It’s all fun,
I have no financial interested in this hotel but I really like it. It is a bit pricey for what the hotel its self is but if you think, its in a great position for transport and NAN/Cowboy, its got a massage parlor out side the door, great side door for going in a night (no walk of shame) wooden block out windows for those afternoon sleeps. Fast internet, good food, new rooms, great walk in shower. Cold Air con. I am hard fetched to say that there are really any hotels in that area that can really offer all those things together. You can say that another hotel has a better restaurant, or has better showers but none have all of the above.
I mean when you walk into the Regency Park dose one of the bosses walk out to greet you and say thanks for stopping and later come on down to the bar and have a few drinks with us. MMMMM I think it dose not. Last time I stopped there I met one of the other main guys drinking a few cocktails on the street at around 3.00am he bought me a load of drinks then drove me back on his bike. I do not think the boss of the Manhattan would do that.
But 1800 compared to others is expensive. If you just there to grab a girl and do your stuff there are cheeper alternatives for sure. I am just a fan thats all.

sorry I didn't get a chance to read this whole thread. is the fast internet wireless? anything beats a modem. we usually stay at the manhattan - looking for a change. I guess we could go 2500 a night or so if we need to. possible to plug my laptop into the TV and play a music CD here?

No and I am totally not interested in this "service" for an extra 600-800 bhat per day cost. Now how about the "facilities" you have at this tiny hotel vs the others? Do you like the pool (none... LOL) ? So for what exactly are you paying for? The manager hanging with you and buying you a drink? No thanks I do not want to know the manager this is not why I go to BKK... but to each his own.
As I said, this is not just a "bit" pricy. It is way over priced and they can get away with this because 1) hidden advertising on this BB and 2) newbies who don't know better. Of course they are also a small hotel so they can get booked from just the traffic generated by this BB. But those who know many hotels in BKK know this place is totally not worth the 1800b/night. Now if they would have charged like 1000b/night, maybe, just maybe it would be OK. I still will take the Manhattan for example at the same price. Now if they go to 700-800 bhat per night then it is a normal price for this level of hotel in BKK. You may pay a bit more to cover for the "Swiss" managment, so OK 900-1000 but that is tops. At 1800 it way over priced not worth it totally. I guess those who have not stayed at other places cannot make such a statment. But I can...

For under 1000 Thb you get only very old and run down properties, like the Manhattan, Honey, Federal, Promenade etc...
This is a fairly new hotel with very good quality rooms. Further facilities like a pool are lacking but the rooms are very good indeed.
And yes..... I have seen many, many hotels and hotel rooms in Bangkok!!!

The rooms at Majestic are fine and not run down, yet the cost 1200 bhat. You want to pay 1800 bhat/night? Try Grand President for a Topaz suite at 1600 bhat. That is exactly the point - this hotel has only 20 rooms and has no other common facilities. Room being new by itself cannot justify this price IMHO. Try asiaroom.com to check for prices on Suk. 1800 is way off at this level of hotel. But since you seem to like it (or are one of the owners... LOL) go ahead pay for it. For *me* it is totally not worth it. You will hear many porblems from people who have stayed there in addition to the high price (hot water runs out, key does not work, noise from the karaoke club near by, etc). I am amazed that such a tiny hotel with 20 room has so many posts on this BB. Now remember 1800 bhat does not even include breakfast, and has few saying they were asked to pay tax+service extra. Indeed seems the manager, Daniel, is a nice guy, and he has to be around to make sure your resrvation is honored, but hey, why have all this trouble and at this cost when there are so many other better places around? Novotel Lotus at 1900 bhat (all incl breakfast and taxes), and even the *new* majestic grand (now this is a new hotel not run down) goes for about 2400 bhat per night (and its worth this level of service). So again, 1800 bhat is not priced right for what this hotel offers. You want a small hotel, near BTS, and cheap to compare, try the M in Bangkok its an appartment hotel, tiny, 10 appartments or so, no breakfast, no facility, no lobby, separate entry like a private appartment building. Rates start at 600 bhat. Hey there are so many better places than this one. Why all the fuss?
