Question: Why would one of the "owners" have to pay for a room he "owns"?

I guess when you are angry at others success, it clouds your judgment and you are unable to Isee clearly...

sorry I didn't get a chance to read this whole thread. is the fast internet wireless? anything beats a modem. we usually stay at the manhattan - looking for a change. I guess we could go 2500 a night or so if we need to. possible to plug my laptop into the TV and play a music CD here?

No, its not a Wirless Broadband but through an Ethernet socket. Reasonable speed but not 20Mbs Cable like I have at home!

Not sure about Laptop into TV but there is now a DVD player in each room that will play Audio CD's!

Hello Bro's,

Bickering aside WTF !!!!!! - I have stayed at the Grottino about 30 plus nights over the last two years.

Hot water - no issue.
Air Conditioning is awesome and the control panel actually works.

What I like the most about the rooms is the incredibly comfortable spring mattress queen beds - with soft comforters - not the gross brown blankets found in most other hotels in this price range.

The rooms are set up for sex and sleeping - this is not a place to impress Business clients.

5 minute walk to Soi Cowboy.
3 minute walk to BTS.
10 minute walk to Nana.

Supermarket under Robinsons allows you to eat a great meal at the food court for 200 Baht. Fill up the mini fridge with beer of choice. And snacks etc….

To each their own poison – some like the Grand Lobby’s like the Ambassador or the Grand President – they want a gym and a pool, which 90% don’t use anyway since most Bro’s are sleeping off their hangovers.

I have stayed at the Royal President, Grand President, Manhattan, and City Lodge. The beds suck and the AC is way too cold – can’t stand the shit brown sheets that are covered by a flimsy thin white sheet. Again to each their own poison.

If you are looking for glitter and bling bling – go elsewhere.
If you want a very comfortable and clean room in a great location with a bed that lulls you to sleep after a good shag – hit the Grottino.

No I am not a part of anyone’s fan club and do not have an $ interest in the Grottino other than staying there.

I stayed there as a newbie and will continue as a vet.

For those of you who constantly are looking for a battle- try some Prozac or better yet get of the board and go to Law school - arguing for argument sake pollutes this board.

Peace

CZ

Seeing that you were a newbie and the length of time this place has been opened, I would hardly go around calling myself a "vet"

I’m actually curious as to what point in time you felt that you have aspired to the ranks of a “vet”?? Was it after you first trip? your second? Or your 30 days staying at the Grottino? or is it how well you can speak thai badly?? Do you put youself in the same “vet” league as someone who has visited the country for the last 10 years, or someone who has lived there for the past 5 or more years??? I’m curious Calzoid, what is the criteria for one to become a “vet”?..It might be that I’ve been humble to date and should in fact start going around telling people that I’m a “Vet (eran) of Thailand”…..Or maybe I could just dismiss such nonsense and continue with the outlook that as much as I might think I know about Thailand, pales in respect of what I don’t know about it.

I don’t know where I picked this up from, but its applicable to you. To the effect of “Going to University teaches you how much you don’t know”. Words of wisdom in my books and broad in its application.

So you must of moved on from being a lawyer and now a judge. Nice of you to decide what is or isn’t legitimate argument (read: discussion)...to put your post into a nutshell, you're effectively saying the following:

1. I've stayed at this hotel and it’s great with no problem;
2. Anyone who has any criticism or something negative to say about this hotel is wrong;
3. Because I've made the ‘ruling’ that this hotel is good, no further discussion (read: argument) or comments are needed (especially negative comments) ;
4. If you want to argue with me, get some "prozac" or go become a lawyer, because any argument over this hotel is finished.

All you are doing is regurgitating an earlier part of this thread where early indications that there were problems with this hotel were dismissed and the poster's criticised. Unfortunately the "defenders" of this hotel couldn't stem the tide of negative “discussion” from people who have stayed there. Is it a rat hole? – No. Is it value for money? – Maybe once, highly debatable now.

All you had to say was, I've stayed here, these are my observations and let the reader decide on what you say and what others have said. You stepped over that line and became what you criticised! I’m not sure if its your american upbringing or just being a “New Yawker” that has made you dismiss anyone else’s view and stay determined with finality that your view is right regardless of other evidence to the contrary.....

Here’s some news for you Calzoid, this is a discussion forum, if you don’t like people disagreeing with your view or get your tits easily in a twist because people’s views differ, maybe you should be the one who should be prescribed prozac!!

Ohh, and I should finish up without saying "Peace"

If Calzoid is a vet, a lawyer and a judge, he must be raking in some serious money.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Calzoid and he is a fine person. Wish I had had the chance to party with him but I was occupied at the time.

Oh yeah, as far as this useless newbie vs. vet shite, I've worked in/visited Thailand for the past 25 years. Have 9 years to go before retiring and living there. I am still learning, making mistakes, and enjoying it. A lot more in life to get wound around the axle about gents........

I agree that readers should make their own determinations as stated above. However, the "American upbringing" comment was plainly unnecessary.

Mr Alan
I would say that anyone who has stayed at a particular hotel for 30 days, is a veteran customer of the hotel.

Isee - relax.

Maybe "vet" is a poor choice of words.
Spent over three months in LOS over the last 1 1/2 years. Each day was more exciting then the next.

I defend the Grottino cause I think its a great place to stay - period. I am not looking for an argument although your summation was excellent!

If you are around the next time we are in BKK - I'll buy you a beer - your points have been well taken. You can take the boy out of New York but you cant take New York out of the boy.
