Stayed there for 1,5 nights at the end of my July trip, the last stay was just after they opened in 2003.
Still a very nice hotel, but the rooms - esp. the bathroom - felt a bit small after staying in Majestic Grande (deluxe room) and Tim's new place in Pattaya.
One nag, though:
I've complained before that hotel maids do not consider anything as garbage, not even used condoms.
In SG, however, they have a different approach:
When I returned to my room in the afternoon, I missed certain items:
- some notes (phonenumbers and email for some girls) and receipts that was left on the desk. Luckilly I did not need them anymore.
- my toilet bag (that was currently a plastic bag after loosing my original), left on the corner of the sink. The toilet bag contained some shampoo, condoms, razor blades and, most important, 5000 baht worth of contact lenses.
I got some help in the reception, but no appologise. They found my bag in the garbage, and I can still see!

Stayed here for a night while I was passing through Bkk in the middle of my trip. First tried walking in to the Majestic Suites, but of course it was booked. I wasn't quite sure where to stay at that point, but I then remembered the Swiss Grottino. Walked in to the nearest internet shop, logged on to BTF, and quickly found directions.
Left at the Family Mart....
Walked in and asked to see a room. Nice wooden floors, cool mood lights, lights under the bed, and all the other you stuff you guys mentioned in this thread. Overall, I thought the room was very nice. Great location! Actually the location was perfect - close to the the Asoke station, Soi Cowboy, and the Country Bar, where I enjoy playing pool.
Asked the boss how many rooms he had available as I had a friend coming into town that evening. He told me he had 3 rooms left. When I explained my situation he offered to hold a room for my friend and if he didn't want to stay there no problem. Placed looked good to me so I checked in.
While I was in my room I saw on a sign on the desk that the hotel rents cell phones. My cell phone was dead and my charger was broken and I needed a phone. So I went downstairs ordered a cup of coffee (which was really good btw) and asked the bartender about renting a phone. She then told the boss, who was now eating dinner with his friends. He then stopped eating and got up to get one of his phones. I felt he didn't need to do that right then, but he did. Cool thing was he let me use it for free. Good customer service...
When my friend arrived we decided to eat at the hotel. I ordered schnitzels with fries and salad for both of us. Our food was excellent.
I will most likely stay here again... One recommendation though - there's an empty spot on the wall across from the bed, which would be a perfect place to put a mirror. Just a suggestion that somebody might want to pass along to the owner.

Spent two nigts at the Swiss Grottino in August. Excellent location, good spacious rooms, in-room internet access (wired) that works and friendly staff. Had a chance to dine at the restaurant and was happy with the quality of the food I ordered.
Needed to check out early and asked (the night before) to be served breakfast at 6.00am. At sharp 6 the breakfast tray was seved in my room.
Have been a regular at Town Lodge for over a year but have decided its the Swiss Grottino for me in BKK.

I think it's difficult to say who owns what, due to the nightly power struggles that take place as the various family heads of the swiss mafia meet under a smoke cloud in a dark corner of the grottino restaurant.

That sucks!!!
Only problem I had was on checking out. The dam credit card system was down. Tried three credit cards but it was the system. Went to the Mart near by and used my debit card to take out the money.
I have had this problem in other hotels so not much to be surprised about.
I suggest you tally up you bill the night before and just pay for any mini-bar charges or food orders you have for your last night.

Rooms are great,, price is good,,location great,,, food that I have tried was very good. Staff seem to be struggling with the automated systems, patience is the key,,,, or if not able, then ask for a blow-job while you wait
SG is in my top 2 for Sukumvit.
