joe9991945, Agreed Swiss Grotinno is over-priced. Actually I think I was the one that started the complaints about pricing there a year or so ago.
Mai pen rai,, the custonmers there that I met are 95% German or Swiss, so it would seem they are marketing into that. Obviously they are doing well or they would have dropped the price.
Have to admit the location is great but at that price I've looked elsewhere.

Keep smiling.
Mel.

Yeah, my peeps are mostly sheep, sadly enough, so that kind of marketing works well if you are targeting that group "Ja, look Liebchen, this place looks German, so we can be amongst peers"

That's the last thing I'd want on a vacation (I'm a demographic all on my own) -- though it's nice to see them doing well. I will still need to attck their pastry kitchen one of these days, though...

Just spent two weeks at this hotel.

Agree with MG re overpriced, but not hugely.

Pleasant stay, room is maintained and cleaned to high standard.
Good in room facilities, TG liked it (and she has seen far more rooms than any punter on this site!!)
Staff are competent at reception, room staff are friendly and happy...not fazed about cleaning room with us in it.

You can come and go whenever with whomever, nobody notices or cares, as it should be.
This is a hotel for grown ups.

Only blackmark is that one side faces Robinson' carpark, so no view. Its nice to have the knob polished while admiring a nice sunset.

Would certainly return, will return actually.

As jgm005 said, the Internet service is really patchy at the moment. Half the time I'm reduced to using one of the unsecured wireless networks around here instead - but obviously I can't use that for anything sensitive so it is a little annoying.

This is a lazy question, I know, but has anyone looked at that new place, "The Key", at the end of the same subsoi? It claims to be a boutique place - looks interesting.

They do usually have some nice maids though. There's one cute young new one now with blonde-streaked hair.

She hasn't seen me with any women yet so it's that honeymoon period where she's all flirty smiles. Don't you love the way that changes when she first sees you roll out of your room in the early afternoon with a hooker?

The Key
======

Anyone tried this newly re-furbished place on the same sub-soi as Swiss Grottino off Sukhumvit Soi 19?

They appear to have a promotion at the moment with rooms available from B2400. Haven't seen it on any of the Hotel Discounter sites yet.

Location good but rates overpricing it out of comparable places. No pool no other dining facilities no gym as far as I could see on the site (if its not mentioned it does not have it).

Cheers!

Not sure?? Does it adjoin a fashion shop on the ground floor which faces Soi 19?
and a Japanese restaurant on the other side? Is the entrance opposite the Luxury Hotel/Korean Barbeque? Right on the corner of soi 19 and the sub soi, same side as Swiss Grotino?

If it is then yes I have… but cant remember it being called the key, but that is nothing new LOL.

I am sure it is, had a look at the web site and the décor of the rooms looks the same but they look a lot bigger than when I stayed there in April, must be a suite room... lot of building work going on then in April/May, but actually not to much disturbance.

I stayed in the standard room and I would say that quality wise it is a lot better than Grotino however the room was a bit smaller but did have a kitchenette with microwave and big fridge freezer. I actually went there cos I got back from Pattaya early and Grotino was full. I got a slightly cheaper price than Grotino because I booked for 8 nights (discount on weeks booking) at 1900 baht per night.. Maybe because of building work?

All the girls liked it big flat screen TV and DVD player. Feather pillows and duvet (which I love). I would recommend it but if the gold room is the one I stayed in I think the price on the website is too much not worth 3,800 baht thought 2000 baht would be good… rooms too small but then most of it is taking up by the big bed.. Try to negotiate a better rate especially if you are staying over a week…

Forgot to add staff were brilliant, very girl friendly. The manager could not have been better. Did however want payment up front.. a practice a lot of places are now doing.

Being a smaller hotel, is there any problem with late night arrival or early morning departure (i.e. is the front desk staffed 24/7) ?

Thanks.
