Hey Tim,
This is strange... price went up on your site to 1800 bhat? and at the Darjeeling's site to 1950B? Not nice... I thought you have arranged us to get this for 1600B...
So out of the fuss the price went up - guess owner got convinced he can ask for more... not good anymore.. lets try the new Sofitel Cenara Grand at Cental World - confirmed now guest friendly (when booked double ) and 5 stars...
On the other hand, expect a slow down in the economy... with all those extra new hotels rooms around, prices will go down...

This Thailand - less business, less customers, prices increase.
Also, bear in mind, October 1st marks a season change for many hotels, with an increase in prices - that could account for the price increases...

The 1600 price was always fixed from the start to end of Sept. Opening special.
On my site its 1800 Baht compared with 1,950 at Asiarooms and hotels own site. The low season at hotels usually starts in May and ends October 31st.
The high season starts on November 1st and runs through the new year.
Also my customers only get free 24 hours broadband internet.
Its still good value compared with old larger hotels. Room quality and fittings befit a much more expensive hotel, with a friendly service of a small hotel.
Agree that Centara Grand is nice. They too are having a soft opening price. When that finishes, expect 4000-5000 per night as per our contract rates.
Darjelling, no walk of shame, Centara could be quite nasty with all those eyes on you. Centara, you cannot walk to Cowboy in 3 minutes. Although you can be in Central World in 3 minutes.
Everyone's different with different needs and expectations. That's what makes life so interesting.
Apollo is right, maybe these hotels will offer a special if the high season is quiet. Judging by the current economic problems, then they might just do that?

The Interchange occupies the former Asoke Plaza land. It streches from the corner of Asoke to Soi 23. It's an enormous building.
It has an entrance on Soi 23... next to The Ship. Cowboy is at the corner.
Although I am a little confused, for many years people talked about a hotel to come, now some say it's a business tower. Saw it only from outside.
There were talks that the left hand side from Cowboy would be torn down for this hotel. Apparently they were able to save it.
Also, another hotel/apartment has opened on Soi 23... the Citadines (they have have a sister property on Soi 16).
Don't know about this... maybe it's within the Interchange Building.

Tim, you must be a bad boy... Penny Black is nothing more than a lazy boy's prefered ST hotel  Expensive and too shorttimed (2 hrs.) though... Nevertheless, fond memories...

Well with all these new 5 star and other hotels' rooms... and economy in the world going down... I expect prices will go down as well... so next year should be nice if we can still afford getting to LOS in the first place!

Thanks for your explanations - I forgot about the Oct 1st cut-off date for the high season price change...! BTW I never had any problems with "shame"... hahaha was always proud to show off what I have/am getting (of course I assume I have good taste for the Thai's eyes... and not getting someone whom is considered very ugly in the Thai's eyes so that they say "Oh look at farang goes with ugly Thai lady..." LOL )
