ACCOR OPENS TWO ECONOMY HOTELS IN BANGKOK

Accor has launched its economy hotel brand in Thailand with two new hotels – Ibis Siam Bangkok and Ibis Huamark Bangkok.
Opening rates at Ibis Huamark Bangkok start at Bt 888 net a night, and Bt 999 net a night at Ibis Siam Bangkok until April 30, 2006
The entry into Thailand is part of Accor’s expansion of its economy hotel brand in the Asia-Pacific region. Ibis is already located in countries such as China, Korea, Indonesia and Australia and will make its debut later this year in India. There are 715 Ibis hotels globally in many of the world’s large cities.
The company bills the hotels as offering “a combination of modern international standard accommodation, value-for-money rates, cutting-edge facilities and prime locations in the capital”.
The economy hotels focus on no-frills accommodation.
They keep rates low by giving their employees multiple responsibilities. Reception-desk workers check guests in and out, work as cashiers and also help out in the cafe and bar, especially after dinner service ends. There are no barmen or bellhops. Ibis guests are provided with trolleys to bring their luggage to and from their rooms.
The 180-room Ibis Siam Bangkok is in Bangkok’s Pratunam shopping area within walking distance of Suansantipab Park and the Victory Monument Skytrain station. Its location is easily reached from Don Muang Airport, and is close to Chatchuchak market and shopping malls and entertainment districts, according to the company.
Ibis Huamark Bangkok features 269 rooms and is next to a shopping mall, Ramkhamhaeng University and Huamark Stadium. It is 25 km from the new Suvarnabhumi Airport and offers access to Bangkok’s central business district and Pattaya.

wow 999 bhat for a room? That is good... but I think it is the open rate only. Accor (which also runs Majestic Suites) will be guest friendy I think and hence there is nothing that is better given it is a new central hotel. Not close to the places of night interest, but BTS/taxi is a short hop away from those... (NEP, Silom).
I should try it once next time I am there, will be interesting to see their normal rates (after Apr. when current specials ends).

from our experience most of Accor hotels are not girl friendly - Novotel Lotus, Novotel Siam, Sofitel Silom, Sofitel central and the rest branch in Thailand...
I hope those 2 will be different but I'm doubt about it...

Sounds like a good deal, if girl friendly. I've tried this chain in Amsterdam and Copenhagen, and was quite pleased with the value I received in these cities, which are generally expensive for accomodation.

Their special runs until end of Apr. your date is in Aug. If you try a date before end of Apr., you get the special restricted rate of 899 bhat for two incl breakfast and all taxes (non changable or 999 bhat changable). I would say let it have some time until you can find it on internet sites other than accor and book it there, probably lower then what you get at 1200 bhat/day for 2 incl breakfast and taxes. It actually may be you will get close to their 999 bhat special incl tax and breakfast for two with online reservation sites such as asiarooms.com and so on.
Yes this is in the Pratunam shopping area we need to see what do they mean walking distance to Victory monument BTS station. Maybe its indeed 5 minutes from there? wont be that bad if it is.
I would rather do self service dont need bellboys to be around and look for getting guest fee or such. Also indeed if their dinner is all self served, its a good principle and if its a new hotel may work well (Europe has a few of these they are good value for money). As for guest friendly? Well we shell see... with less hotel workers around to mind this, may be fine.. I never had problems at the Novotels but others claim they did. 1200 bhat even is a good price. the more of such new hotels open the better the competition is to lower the prices eventually (some other hotels have raised rates although they are upgrading the rooms which is about time...).

Ibis is on Ratchaprarop Road same as Indra Regent Hotel and Baiyoke is behind Indra Regent. Pratunam markets are next to Indra and Baiyoke.
From Indra Regent to Ibis is about 5-600 metres on the other side of the road heading towards Din Daeng, Victory Monument area.
From Ibis to Victory Monument BTS is about 400 metres.
