Surfing the net, found this recently opened small hotel about which nothing has been written so far in the forum. http://merisess.com/index.htm At about THB 1,700 through http://www.agoda.com (net, all taxes included) looks like a steal. Free airport pickup if you stay for 3 nights or longer and book directly. I notice that their website says "no joiner fee". They even mention they allow 3 people in some rooms, so there you go, you know you can have a 3-some and they won´t give you any trouble.... I just wonder how far inside soi 16 it is located. Easy soi to get in by taxi, but may not be so comfy and easy coming out from the place. Include hotels like Citadines and Salil, both in soi 8, Le Fenix in soi 11, Darjeeling in soi 18, all with offers under THB 2,000 and with so many to choose from, it stops being easy selecting a decent hotel with a very nice price.

Well, decided to give it a go and just made a booking (using Dr. Love´s link, which directed me to Agoda) at this place. Price for the room with breakfast, inclusive of taxes, came to THB 1,850. Selected their "premier suite", which is just THB 150 more than their regular "deluxe suite", but is slightly larger at 35m2 (versus 30m2) and has separate bathtub and shower. LAN and WI-FI Internet are free. It all looks fine on paper. But I just worry a bit how far inside soi 16 this place is. I will let you guys know after I try the place.

I know soi 16 very well my inlaws all live down there and the wife has rooms there. Taxi's drive in and then drive on or turn right half way down. this brings you back too the Queen sikrit station and the main road, looking at the map its around that point. So accesable by taxi or short walk from the main road. I never saw this place so it could be new or tucked away but its close to everything thats for sure. Soi cowboy, Klong Toie market, lotus, carrefour, toxic,Tulip to name but a few. I have no idea how accurate numbers are in Thailand but my in-laws live at 190 which is opposite the Queen Sikrit centre. This would be a little bit back and a 5 minute walk from QSC if that helps. Will be interested in your field report.

This looks like a very good find and I might have to try it out in December. The complimentary services are nice like the airport pickup and then the 2 piece of laundry per day if you stay over 3 days. Even free laptop rental. Looking forward to the FR...

Kuppa, which is supposed to be exactly opposite the hotel, is 650 meters (.4 mi.) from the Ratchadapisek/Sukhumvit intersection, by my GPS map. So, Dr. love's walking estimate is about right: 8 min. Can't say I've ever walked down that soi, day or night, though, so it might be a very boring (or suspenseful) 8 min, depending on the time of day (or night)... I'm on the fence; it's just a landing pad, and the airport pickup sounds nice, as well as the internet. But when I'm still in time lag, I like to be able to walk out the front door, and grab a bite (or someone to bite, gently) in the wee hours...HQ has its advantages. Decisions, decisions... 12,900 for the week is a nice deal, though. "See you, in De-cem-ber, cha-cha-cha..." hs

It's a very boring and very non-eventful walk, and neighborhood down Soi 16 - 'quiet' is how it would best be described, but really, I never found much there -- though Sukh and Asoke are only 10 minutes away.

Don't underestimate Soi 16, it has: - some nice upscale restaurants like the highly recommended manhatten style Kuppa and a superb Japanese one and the likewise highly recommended very comfy value-for-money Thai rest. Ballee Laos opposite of Gardengrove - my favorite every day rest. in BK - a soon to open connection to the end of Soi 18 and its famous nightclubs and Soi 20 with... errr... Otto! through the Millenium Residence towers area - a large 24/7 foodland - a wide range of condo and serviced appartment buidlings like Somerset lakepoint, Gardengrove and others - Citadines hotel almost at the mouth of Soi 16 - and now Merises hotel which seems to be an interesting budget option... - lotsa street vendors at daytime for feeding all the cute office girls - good motorcy connectivity throughout the soi day and night - no p4p so far in Soi 16, unless you count in what happens between the sheets of all these condos and g/f hotels Yes, I lived there couple 'o years...
