If you could stay at any hotel in Bangkok which would you choose? Just assume that you would get it for free, so price is not an issue here.

If you need ideas, just check out the list of 382 hotels in Bangkok.

Assuming I am checking in with a favorite TGF, and plan on spending a lot more time in bed, with her, and at the spa, or listening to jazz, or smoking cigars on the veranda, or just generally lounging around the hotel with her and a few good books, then I would definitely have to go with the Joseph Conrad Suite at the old/new Mandarin Oriental Hotel, down by the Chao Phraya river, far far from the Sukumvit ghetto that I do love so much.

Well, I have never stayed at the Mandarin, but if I could crash in on whoever is renting my old 1 bedroom apartment at SV City on the river thats my first choice...but that wouldnt be too cool though LOL!

I would say, for the price, Citadines Soi 23 and know others like the one up suk.....you cant go wrong at all with TL and the service RTB gives...but am getting old (37) and need a soft matress...and the gym at Citadines burns the booze off and is included...overall a pretty good value.....

of course, on my next trip the typical 5 to 6 thousand baht will be spent at Toxic

just my 2 cents...

I have stayed at most of the top end hotels and so if given the choice of a freebie I would also choose the Mandarin Oriental on the river. Obviously, it would have to be with a well behaved regular and not some pick up, so I could enjoy the hotel without obstruction or embarrassment. (If pushed I could take my wife - but preferably not !!).

If mongering, then I would choose the Intercontinental, for great service, refurbished rooms, gf, excellent pool and good location.

Presidential suite at the peninsula would do nicely, including the helicopter ride from and to the airport.

shangri-la as always, imho far better rooms and service than the mando, plus next to skytrain if u need it, peninsula trades on name only, stuffy, old fashioned, and the wrong side of the water

the suites in shangrila are very big, great bathrooms, views, service, staff, and facilities

For service the Oriental! For location the Sheraton or Millenium!

A Sofitel. Because I am such a f***ing mess this is about as fancy I can go and feel comfortable. I've used the toilet at the Oriental before and it looked like a nice place, but a bit to formal for me. I stayed before at the Sofitel above a Central Department store, and I really liked it, nice room and good breakfast. The people there were nice but it didn't feel overly stuffy. Also its much better than where I usually stay.

Perhaps the Maduzi hotel, for its location (Asoke/Suk), attention to detail, and privacy.

But not on my own baht, that's for sure.
