I'm done with the JW (tired rooms, increasing $$$) from last year, but I really miss the gym. It was the perfect combination of size, quality, and vibe (for me). I've tried others, not 5* but nice, like Pullman, Park Plaza, Siam Design, but none work as far as the gym goes. So, went back to 5* and tried the Le Meridien, which is super (with by far the best food), but the gym is "lightweight". And, it's a bit longer walk to the BTS in the heat. So, considering the Conrad for upcoming 22-30, especially with their deal of $100/nt. Don't like the distance to BTS, little concerned about the "Carradine" effect, but it seems like the sweet spot for quality of room/food/gym. I've read Sandontoes ongoing reviews, very helpful, thanks! Is this the case? Are there other options I've missed? Landmark seemed like the spot 'cause I really like that part of the Suk, but, there rates are not responsive to the downturn, heck, the Le Meridien is available for less than $100, why would Landmark and JW stay so high?

The JW has remodel a number of rooms to a new clean deisgn with partial wood flooring and plasma TV, but the downgraded the wine the exec loung per plunk and I am either going to get it changed or move my business elsewhere. The Conrad has a nice gym. You can use the "Get Smart" entrance. If you push on the stone wall next to the lift on the same floor as the gym the whole wall moves and you can go straight into the gym. The Conrad serves decent wine, but now have reduced cable channels and downgraded toiletries in the bathroom. I think the Landmark yet you use the Fitness First gym in their building FOC. For some reason the JW is getting a lot of Arab business hence the high rates. I really do not understand this as the terrorist have targeted Marriotss golbally for bomb attacks.

JM: Nice gym at the Sheraton Grande. Best gym, Capitol Club, is attached to the President Park. There's no deals at the SG and the PP isn't 5 star. You got it right, hard to beat that Conrad deal. wj

Thanks guys, just making certain before I plunk down my own dough, when I started in the '90's there was an expense account, so, bottom line, who cared? Now it's out of pocket, and I really like the idea of getting back to 5* quality for 4* money. I will go by and take a look at the Capitol Club when I'm in town, I tried the Westin and was not impressed, haven't given the Sheraton a try 'cause for that money I can do lot's of other things that make me break a sweat, and have a good place to sleep as well !

Ascott on Sathorn has Cascade Club connected on the 6, 7 floors. But its a walk from Chongnonsee Station, around 5 minutes, or quick motorcycle.

Jimmymac, You should have a look at Grande Centre Point. Their 1 bed Suites are around 4,000 Baht per night and they have a superb gym and sports facilities there. Guest friendly and very nice. Tim

If the JW has refurbished the rooms, and wotif.com has it at 3500 b. it's pretty tempting. I'll check out the PP and Capitol Club, as well as the Grand Centre Point when I'm on the ground. None seem to have the optimal location that JW has. At this point it's the Conrad for the first 4 nites, and then decide how to finish out the trip. Perhaps back where I started. BTW, went on Priceline, saw on a forum that Siam now includes Pullman, a guy won for 75. I bid up to 81 for 5* Suk, and got nothing. Didn't want to bid Siam and get Amari W'gate, and the Pullman can be had for close to 75 online. Mahalo plenty,
