Obviously ID has been required since the Government became strict about only allowing people, aged 20 and over, into these clubs (about 2 years ago).
As I understand it the recent tightening up for 'everyone' is due to the fact that as of March, the police can fine any establishment Bt50,000 if any customer is caught without ID. On this basis I think we can assume checking ID for evetone will be fairly standard policy everywhere within the next 3 months.

Oww c'mon. You can use your Driving License ID or Copy of Working permit in small plastic card as ID. Only the difference you cannot used small copy of working permit in plastic card for opening phone account. For that you need real pasport and real working permit. Last time I claim to insurance about my car only using my International Driving License and my National Driving License. And no need long procedures, just left my car in the morning and pick up again in the afternoon. The same if you enter disco or pub, just show your nationality driving license and they will let you in. Because bring pasport make you in more great danger, and if missing more difficult to process.
