Bang Cock Mack 25's dress code post keeps running through my mind.
After a most enjoyable morning spent at Baron's down the street I'd worked up quite an appetite and thought I could find a nice meal inside Emporium and people watch as well.
From Sukhumvit side I chose the rest. right there on the groundfloor with prime views of the comings and goings. As it turns out I was there twice in three days (Saeng and Oil, naturally). Food was superb too. They seated me (both days) facing the entry podium and both days i watched as people came and went.
This thread talks a lot about dress in LOS and while there I saw it's effect first hand. I saw perhaps six couples maybe 8, all farang hobbyists (with Thai dates) most likely, dressed in that slightly unkempt 'jeans 'n t-shirt' vacationwear attire who were turned away rather than being seated. At first I just assumed there were no seats but as couples just moments later were seated it was a case of, and my second day confirmed it, mgmt. turning away a slightly undesireable client. I was really surprised, as were those affected. A few knew why and made indignant 'scenes' before they stormed off, girls in toe.
Anyway, the BCM 25 wears a suit to Emporium for a very good reason. He knows the score. I was dressed well in slacks, short sleeve dress shirt, and nice shoes. Thankful that I had heeded the advise of the forum, planned accordingly and was shown much respect as a result.

well Skip, I don't do impressions. 
To be honest, at MOS and Lalunar (which I both enjoy for the dance and hanging out with friends)... and for RCA for that matter, I don't really consider it a pickup ground. Yes, it's done, and I've done it (and the 2,000 Baht "taxi fare/tip" morning after cut off/disposal) and will indulge once in a long while. I treat them as social playgrounds where I accept wais from past tricks or one night gfes. I'm a businessman, so I value my time. I am more of a fan of pay, 2 hours, and back to making money. I "waste" 6-8 hours a week on this recreation and focus on my work (which keeps me with the income and ability to enjoy life here).
If you do long time pickups or outcalls, you're giving up a whole night (which IS great once in AWHILE). You're going to give them your phone #. You're exposing yourself and your heart to getting attached (not really a danger when you're as cold as me... but we're all human). I'll tell you right away that the end result over time is way too many phone calls that you have to avoid/not answer. And if you have a regular day time life and regular girl as well, it's not an attractive deal.
The Piano is comparable to Forte and Orbit. My impression? Um, I like the light blue uniforms the gals wear? It's okay. A nice place to look and "spend time" if that's your cup of tea. With my above philosphy, my comparable alternative to this place is Champs Elysee where I can dispense with the small talk, get my 2 hours and occasional all nighter. The attractiveness of any "upscale" place like the Piano (or C.E.) is that the girls "work" less. Fewer tricks (many girls in these places might go throuh... only about 15-30 rounds per month... as opposed to the 40-90 average in MPs and bars to make the same amount of money... all ballpark figures of course), less mileage, but more time consumption in general. The university student / higher education bit is mostly urban legend (although there are some... these are a mix between real fighters in the social climb... and those who enroll in 1-2 classes so they can get the ID and the uni pin to market themselves as students). Even falangs can get fake docs here. Thais are pros at it. I've met plenty of "students" who couldn't even read Thai, but who could sing songs in English, Chinese, and Japanese. Yeah, real 'students' right?
Want to be a sugar daddy? Shopping trips and moving her into a new apartment (which you will pay for each month) is a start. I'd advise trying this ONCE in a lifetime and get back to business. That's what I did. Cash in the pocket for pocket money (just as if you were her husband)... and you pay the rent directly to the landlord, and well... pay for anything she wants to buy within REASON on the weekly shopping trip. It's just like dating a stripper or the like back in America. Or being a sugar daddy anywhere, I think. If you ever BUY them a car or apartment, you've become a sugar-sucker (or you burn money in the fireplace to keep warm during the Thai 'winters' so no biggie). Yes, she'll find a reason to get a new apartment (most likely to avoid the previous sugar daddy making an unexpected late night booty call... which can result in a fist fight or gun battle if you're unlucky enough... again, quite quite rare, but it happens).

i wear shorts, shirt and shoes with black socks and have never been turned away from any place in BKK. I've stayed at 5 star hotels and have gone to the beergarden on Soi 7. As far as B/G goes, I have (hansum man, sexy man) better then 99% sucess rate. I've only been turned down once or twice. I think, I'm not sure it's the percieved size of my wallet that may have something to do with my sucess not the clothes I wear.

I understand, but i'm thinking more in terms of evening wear in some of the finer establishments. From what's been said here you'd be out of line to show up at MOS, La Lunar or Club Orbit in shorts.
And not to knock it, but the beergarden on Soi 7 is really a world away from these venues, or so I suspect.

I think the bottom line with places like Orbit, La Lunar, or MOS is not that you "can't" wear shorts, it is that you don't want to because it is supposed to be a "hip" place and you'll look like a tool going there in shorts...

you can look trendy or 'hip' in shorts it depends on the outfit and acessories as well. But pants seem to work better in a 'hip' club setting.
