i know both places as well, do prefer forte, probably because i have a membership to work on there and most of my freinds go there!
for sure the action starts a bit earlier in orbit but apart from that pretty much the same places to me!
Only took a girl there once as it is damned hard to score in these places if you are not hanging around there on a regular base and start throughing around drinks like stupid! there are easier pick uo joints for classy girls than these two!

If you can avoid it, I'd say don't wear jeans and t-shirt (unless you're like 19 or something). Over here I wear jeans all the time, but in Thailand if you're going out to someplace other than just a beer or gogo bar, then you should wear slacks and at least a polo shirt.
In nicer bars and clubs dressing up this tiny bit will give you a little more respect and class. Most importantly, do you really want to be wearing denim when a cute girl is grinding against your crotch?
But, as I alluded to, if you're real young, don't have a lot of money and are looking to hook up with girls who just want to have a good time, then dress down if you can pull it off without looking like a slob.

being among 'normal' society in thailand dress and looks is nearly everything! So for you americans, do us expats a favour and try to avoid jeans, t-shirts, white socks and nike's as this outfit will out you 1.) as an american tourist who is an easy ATM catch 2.) people in thailand rather appreciate a decent outfit which will for sure earn you more respect with any of the local lasses!

Actually Goober, bringing a couple pairs of slacks instead of jeans is travelling light. Slacks have a lot of nice attributes for Thailand, they should be thinner, breath easier (very important), they're easier to wash (and especially to dry), and most importantly they're looser and more accessible for diddling activities.
The only problem I have is that at inopportune times they don't do well to constrain my attraction to the lady of the moment. Oh well, you have to give up something.

Note that i aint american nor am i a farang...
The bangkok scene is not just predominantly a place for expats or farang to have some fun.
I can speak for all other asians in this region be it the brothers from malaysia, singapore, hongkong or even japan that do enjoy the company of thai women.
so being in jeans and tshirt would make any farang look more like a tourist then it would for asians..
but still... since orbit, forte and other places seems a bit of the classy side... then i will heed your advice that dressing more appropriately would be a better option to pull one of those cuties....

hey goober, you are right that dress codes are slightly different for asians. i was just try to remind Ûur american bro's that there is a differnt dress code in most of the rest of the world.
Nevertheless I still feel better being overdressed than underdressed especially here in thailand!

dressing for the occassion does bring out a certain charm.... but i am on a holiday .....
dont want to wear office attire if i can avoid it....
so.... guess it'll be a mix and match kinda thing...
are suits still dirt cheap in BKK ?
made a couple the last time for B2500.
