frankly, i think you are just fine if you are wearing *nice* jeans and t-shirt -- ie. black jeans and upscale t-shirt. nice shoes also.. don't even think of wearing sneakers or something. i've never had a problem, and when i wear something causal i don't wear it like a slob..
faded jeans, crappy t-shirt would not be a good idea in a place like Orbit or Spasso though or most up market discos. it is always a good idea to dress as well as you feel comfortable to because as the other posts say, the impression is perhaps more important in Asia than in the west. you can never go wrong with smart casual, so if it isn't too much trouble to throw in some polo shirts do it..

Goober, I'd say if you're asian, that is even more reason to dress up a little. If you don't you could easily be mistaken for being a low class Thai or Chinese. Of course, if you're hip enough to dress casually with a little style (e.g. many young japanese), then you'll stand out and needn't worry (of course, some places still have a minimum dress code).
Of course, it's up to you how much you care about their impressions. If you are laid back and want to relax, then don't worry about it.

Looking cool is almost as good as looking wealthy in Thailand. Unfortunately I can pull off the latter much easier than the former.

I think that dressing to event is a must, but also dressing to what you are comfortable in is also a priority. This means that if you do not like dressing in suits then don't. Does not mean dressing in something inappropriate for that activity though.
I also agree that if you look "hip" and can pull it off, then a person is alloted a wider range in dress material. I do not think that it matter what race you are.
I do not consider myself hip, but do look young and am able to dress more casual then my other work associates, even though I am older then them.
For the record, I've been to Orbit, Pegasus, Piano Club, and many MP's in sweat pants, a sleaveless t-shirt, and high tops, as well as khaki's an a nice banana shirt at different times. I had never had a problem with the management or with not attracting the females in either attire.
And I do not look like a slob in sweats and a t-shirt.

Ratchada MPs: suit (bargain advantage, often no surcharge)
Dance Fever, RCA, MOS, etc.: casual gear, sneakers (girlies like it cool)
Orbit, Forte, Q-Bar, etc., Soi 33: longsleeve shirt, slacks, no sneakers (if they like it classy, they shall have it)
CM2, Spasso: longsleeve shirt, slacks, no sneakers (just a bit different from the average Potatoe Joe)
Nana, Soi Cowboy, etc.: who cares? wanna impress the hoodratz? (casual gear brings bargain advantage)

Me? I think I'm gonna take the Mack's advice and get fitted for a new suit. I kinda liked prowling around the Emporium after my visit to Barons. Maybe I'll increase my marketability there too.
But, the real reason I'm posting here is I like this thread AND value the B-C-M 25's opinion and wanna solicit some of the other brothers too.
