Anyone know the deal with the girls in 'cafe's'? They sing and guys send up money and or flowers. Do they just go with who gives the most or are they 'non' working girls singing for a living?

all of them go. just went out with a cafe girl (for a change) 2 weeks ago. not much customers so three of them sat with me. when one of them goes to the stage to sing the other persuades me to hand over a garland worth Baht 100/- each but i declined - not my stuff. i asked how much to go with a girl she said Baht 2-3,000/-.
Got bored with the songs and told them i'm leaving (after handing out Baht 100/- tip to each of them). the most attractive one who sat beside me followed me to the car and asked where am i going, i said to go go bars in sukhumvit, more livelier. she said she wants to come as she have never been to such place. i ask her if she trust me since we just met and she said yes but before she could talk further i told her i want her alone (thinking all along that she would also bring her friends). she went inside, talked to her friends and dressed up. asked me for Bar fine Baht 200/- and gave it to mamasan.
almost 2:00am and we just hoped in a few bars in soi cowboy. after closing time invited to grace cafe downstairs to show her what's going on in there. going home, asked if she will sleep with me for Baht 1,000/-, thought for a while and said OK. In the room she asked if she could get Baht 500/- more since she will pay her room rent so i said OK (since she'd been a good company). nothing special in bed but had a good time with her overall.
actually, i told her that i was able to get a girl for Baht 500/- at a cafe opposite to where she's working (which is true). in the bar, that previous girl always talk about sex which gave me the impression that she's gonna be great. but wrong, complete starfish as she was drunk.
before, in another cafe i was greatly surprised when a girl started to slapped and kicked her customer who have just spent several thousands of baht on garlands while she's on stage. i often wonder whether the guy said something wrong or touched her which doesn't really merit such scenario.
through my experience i haven't figured it out yet whether there's a standard LT/ST rates applicable to the cafe scene as compared to go go bars. it appears that a chemistry between you and the girl is one factor to establish the price, that is of course IMHO

- this more the tru Thai style of piuck up joint, many in the Pinkgaow area, and probably the main nightspot in most upcountry towns is this style. The garland or melai is sent up when the girl you fancy is doing her routine - some of the bigger places may have 50 or 60 singers, some guys, depending on how keen you are, or how much you want to big note, can send up anything from 100 to 1000's .... for this, the girl will come and join your table, after she has finished her song, for how long, sort of depends on how much you sent up, or if you want to start buying food and drink for her ... it is then that negotiations take place, - sometimes for her to go with you when the place closes, sometimes to meet up the following day before she goes to work. As I say, this is the way Thais generally handle it, and these cafes are the focal point of large hotels in smaller towns, - the ones in bangkok may differ slightly, but certainly worth checking out some now and again, although you probably need to speak thai, and also be careful not to offend anyone, as often a favourite hangout for off duty police !

Cant realy comment with any info. bout the cafe' sceine as i've not been to any. However the thread has raised my curiosity on the subject. I too would like to check out the talent, if any bros. can rate by looks style and such of the girls. Or if in anyones firm opinion it's worth a visit... Blades reports reflects all that, so any other opinions please?

Thanks for your insight Blade... much appreciated. what prompted the question was an experience I had when my new 'non-working' Thai gf took me to a small cafe in soi105 area.
She took her turn on the stage a few times singing traditional Thai stuff, and I was encouraged by the other girls to buy garlands for her at 100bht each. For every one I bought, she received 50bht and the flowers were then re-cycled. I also sent up a 2000bht garland of 100bht notes.. which I was told was only for show and would be returned afterwards. It almost was.. minus the 10% or 200bht claimed by the cafe!
I think all this was to convince the new 'farang' bf that she had a legit job... and was not a bar girl ! Between songs she sat at the table where we shared food and a bottle with some other girls. It was a great night out until one of the other girls was seen groping me under the table while offering herself LT for 500bht.
The scrap that followed between these very sweet and attractive ladies was evil and pretty scary to say the least.. and to this day I am not sure if it was because she thought her 'cover' had been blown, or was just plain jealous! I was told after that the other girl was only a BG and would not be welcome in the cafe again!
There were no other obvious signs of pick-ups going on, and the 'customers' were all fairly well healed Thai guys and couples. I just have difficulty believing that the guys were all throwing big money away just to hear some pretty boring Thai songs.
For eye candy I would recommend it, but for pick-ups I would stick to the usual farang haunts. I am sure it goes on in these places but it was not that obvious to me.
I was also convinced for a long time about her 'legit' job. But the 'ex' non-working gf is now working at Mirage ! Despite the stunning looks, she was only a 4 or 5 starfish in the sack.... drunk or otherwise.

would be a large number of girls, much more than in Patpong/Nana, working in these types of bars around bangkok alone, but in areas not frequented by farangs, occasionally I have met girls late at night at grace or siam hotel, who work in such places, - and they vary from small sleazy little clubs with half a dozen singers, down some back alley, to large showy places, frequented by wealthy thai Chinese guys. - As mentioned, they are the predominant pick-up joint in any Up-country city. While interesting, you do need to know some Thai, also I never feel 100% safe in the places, you just dont know who, or how jealous the Boyfriend is, or how well accepted the farang is. However certainly interesting, and a number in the pinkgaow area, some just over the bridge, and others down arun amarin road, - and no doubt, scattered everywhere else around bangkok. Normally there is a board up out the front, showing pictures of all the singers/girls - again, how many are available ??? but figure, like in Karaoke places, they all are if the price is right.
