the same goes to Holloywood last week!!

maybe its the order given by the PM, Thaskin to clean up the drug scene in Thailand. he wanted to see a drug free Thailand by April 03, forgot the date, and it was a deadline where the authorities in charge have to meet or lose their job!!  it was in the papers a couple of days ago. don know what extend and measure r the authorities gonna take this time, but i'l stay away form drugs while i'm in LOS!!

 regards,

Tampering at the edges of the effect.
Why do they not stop the source?
The pushers the big guys who make
the money out of drugs. Closing bars
is just a cosmetic exercise to prove
something is being done.

Just IMO...

(not that I feel strongly about it)...

Any first world government (with third and developing world cooperation) could eliminate the sources of drugs if they wanted to.   It'd be well within the grasp of any well armed first world armed forces (certainly more beneficial than say... invading Iraq).

The reason why it's not done?   Perhaps the same reason why we're not all using solar power instead of oil.  Solar power isn't profitable.   Narcotics are profitable for the good guys and bad guys.

The power of oil and why'd we go to war for it?  To my knowledge, nothing comes close to the internal combustion engine.  Solar cell and battery technology aren't no where near petroleum powered engines.  The closest "reliable" power source is nuclear, but would anyone wanna drive a "bomb"?

On the war on drugs...  Theoretically it's possible like you said.  But the amount of money involved makes it too "sweet" of a deal to give up, for dealers and politicians.

Drugs and p4p are in the same category, being that it's always been and will never go away.  Therefore, one can only "legislate" it and tax it.

Just my opinion as well...

I wasn't there, and even if I was, couldn't know for sure, but I tend to think that Griffin hit it directly: a reminder to the bar owners to support their local police.  Perhaps a negotiating tactic to establish a new LEVEL of support, wink-wink.

Not so the PM has committed that Thailand
will be drug free by April 2003, expect a lot
more of this at all major entertainment venues.

Mine you this is the same guy who was
going to solve Bangkok's traffic problem in
six months a few years ago!

Sauron
It's all a game.

The PM is pretending to honor the wishes of the King who hates him and vice versa.

Hence the ridiculous 90 day drug free LOS pledge.

And the aspects of the "social order" campaign that pertain to night life are designed to squeeze more black money out of the business and into the hands of the Interior Minister as representative if Thai Rak Thai which is always looking for untraceable money in small bills to buy votes with next election.

Same old corruption, different day.

War on Drugs:

You really want to discuss how to wrap this up?

Legalize it all, let the governments give it away at cost, let the fools who take the stuff poison themselves, and deny the profits to the cartels and gangsters.
