A search on samui hotel info turn up very little here, especially for the hotels I'm considering. First, which area is better: Chaweng or Lamai? I like to swim and enjoy waves if there are any. Second, any info on these hotels (or others) would be great: Chaweng: First Bungalow, Fair House, Chaweng Cove Resotel, Samui Natien Resort, Samui Newstar or Malibu Beach Resort Lamai: Aloha Resort, Galaxy Resort, Samui Park, Weekender, Samui Beach Resort Thanks for any help, maybe this can be THE definitive threat for Samui hotel info...

The Chaweng Cove Resotel was an overpriced (I found all hotels overpriced on Samui) basic hotel. The bungalows are much better than the hotel rooms. Small pool but on beach, ok restaurant, no frills with a generally younger crowd. The hotel is set at the south end of Chaweng beach, the nice end. 10-15 minute walk to Soi Green Mango but there are lots of bars to cool down in on the way or cabs. I would probably try somewhere else on my next trip but I would keep this as a backup. A buddy was staying at Samui Natien resort. No complaints. I am anxiously waiting for spring so I can get back to Thailand.

Forget about Chaweng and head straight to Lamai. The bungalows are great, and very basic. These are perfect for me because they have the rustic atmosphere I am seeking in Samui. The Thailand Lonely Planet guide is a MUST for anyone seeking hotel accommodation in Samui. Many hotels and bungalows are listed here that you won't find advertised anywhere else. Get the LP guide and this will be invaluable all over Thailand.
