Hi chaps, I am working out my itinerary for my trip

I want to travel at some point from Koh Samui to Krabi

Is there a ferry for this

How can I do this, and does anyone know how long this trip takes

thanks

Considering that Koi Samui is on the East Coast of Thailand and Karbi is off the West Coast of Thailand unless they have built a canal across the country it would probably be better to go by bus.

From Answer.com

That ferry, if it exists, is workable only if you have plenty of time to kill onboard. It entails starting from the east of Thailand, down Peninsula Malaysia, pass Singapore, then head up north again, up west coast Peninsula Malaysia. Could be scenic but also parts of it could be highly dangerous - pirates!

How about getting to mainland from Koh Samui, then take a bus across in the west direction. You may be able to fly there but via Bangkok. Check Bangkok Air or Thai Airways.

If you do find a ferry and go this route be sure to stop in Singapore and have a beer at Brewerkz ...

Well, you can always take the ferry to Surat Thani, only 1 hour. And from there take the bus/taxi to Krabi (that trip will probably take 1-2 hours, not sure, but I have taken a van down to Hat Yai, and it took about 3 hours).

Booty: Bangkok Air appears to fly KS to Krabi, but I couldn't get a flight generated. 2000 baht or so. Maybe they'll bring 'em back in high-season. Fly to Phuket and get a cab, boat, or bus. Phuket Airport's as close to Krabi as Patong. The boat leaves from Phuket town and it'll drop you in Ao Nang, Railay, or Krabi town, I think. It's beautiful, but an all-day thing. Chock Dee; wj

just book a ticket from a samui travel agent they are plenty of ferry bus / van combos, it's a well worn route for backpackers.

No!

Koh Samui to Krabi
Buy a ticket at 1 of the multitude of ticketing or 'tourist information' shops on the Island. This will cost 500Bt (costed today) & includes

-Transport in Baht bus or van from your Hotel to Ferry terminal on Koh Samui
-Ferry trip from Koh Samui to mainland (Donsak) - time 1 & 1/2 hours
-Bus from Donsak to Suratthani & then on to Krabi dropping you off at Krabi bus station - took 6 & 1/2 hours

The bus trip from Donsak to Suratthani takes an hour. Arrive at Surranthani & wait for connecting bus to Krabi. I tell you they know how to piss around (waited 2 hours today). Then bus from Surrathani to Krabi, took 3 hours

You will need to allow a whole day for this trip!

I left my Hotel on Samui at 8:30am & arrived in Krabi at 6pm. Be aware the bus collects/drops off school kids/workers on the entire way to to Krabi - literally the bus stopped 1 hundred times! Travelling in the weekend will help avoid students/workers & get you there half hour faster

Sorry guys but this is probably the worst info I have ever seen passed on !?!?!?

DO NOT EVER get a bus from a travel agent or tour company, they are cons, they will tell you you have a VIP couch bus, and by jolly yes you do, all very nice until you reach Surrathani, there you will be asked to exit the nice VIP couch and take your bags, they will dump you in a crappy little cafe and you could be there for several hours. You will then be crammed into either a minibus, and I mean crammed, far too many passengers than should be, or you will receive the service Tezza did and be passed off onto a local, non aircon bus that stops at every village and bus station along the route turning a couple of hours into 4 or 5.
Quite simply get a giovernment bus, its as easy as that, get a direct, VIP government bus from the giovernment bus station, it will cost you less, it will be direct, for long distances it normally includes free tea and coffee, cold towels, and a meal.
The tour agent bus services are for muppets, they are illegal and unlicensed, they are also uninsured, why do you think that most of the time they pick up and drop off at the most obscure of places, get one of these coaches to Chiang Mai and you are dropped off at a petrol station on the very outskirts of town, then you are ferried by baht busses to a guest house where from there you can make your own way or because you are so tired and it is late you could check into this guest house and maybe even partake in their organised treks.

AVOID TOUR AGENT BUSES, get a government bus everytime, cheaper, safer, more comfortable, insured and direct.

Thanks for reminding me of that. It has been a very long time since I have sat in a bus, and probably won't if I can afford it.

You obviously haven't read my Foodie report stating the McChicken at McDonalds Lamai was the best chicken meal available in Thailand, closely followed by the Hot ‘n Spicy wings at Kentucky Fried Chicken - That really went down like a lead balloon!

And you don’t want to hear where they suggested I put my 6” Subway Chicken Deluxe Roll (a close third). But I did get to try that one out with TG the following night
