Just spent 4 days on Koh Samet. TWD brought along Librarian Assistant to prepare here for gettin kicked to the curb. 6000 baht for two bought the garden bungalow, breakfasts, and taxi from Pattaya and back.
I found the bungalow, musty, dark with the lights on, and very basic. There is a tv, a shower, and refridge, and was surprized to find that prices were very similar to Pattaya. The beach was very clean as well as the water. There was plenty of room to have privacy, though a bit too many touristy types for my tastes. I will also say there were an abnormal amount of blonde european single girls, all very friendly.
Day two something wicked hit me and knocked me off my feet for the remainder of the weekend. I had a killer fever, chills, vomiting and diarreha like you wouldn't believe. In the bed, I got cozy with the roosters next door, and fed the huge black mosquitos on a timely basis, and amazed at the throaty frogs every night.
Hope this helps, all in all I'd do it again, next time without the flu though.

I am looking for a place for a MONTH or two in July/August.... requirements :
* beachfront (or very close) - nice beach
* nice size clean ppol (lap swimming)
* house/condo or bugalow - VERY large 1 br or 2-3br preferred
What are your suggestions.. budget up to 80K baht per month for luxury

80k is serious coin for a condo but not so much for a beachfront house of luxury specs.
Condos are available in all resorts so it depends on your choice of location.
In Pattaya the area between Pattaya and Jomtien near the Asia hotel has a number which may fit your specs, cold calling is the best way to check them out. In general they do not have a road in front.
The Yacht Club south of Ambassador City south of Jomtien has a condo and serviced apartment complex overlooking the harbour. This is a little out of the way but not too far away.
In HH you could try the rental agents, try an Internet search. There are a lot of beachfront houses but few have swimming pools. In this price range there should be something you fancy.
In Phuket 80k does not go far, the well heeled have arrived and anything luxurious seems to run to incredible sums. There are a lot of new developments which include luxury villas which you may be able to rent.
For 80k you may get a seriously nice hotel on the beach out of town somewhere. The Rayong Beach Resort may discount down to this level. Lovely location.
In the islands I am not aware of anywhere which would meet your specs apart from hotels. Condos have not really taken off in the islands and smart houses are not generally found there. If anyone knows better please say.

same in samui! sheer luxury will get you a 1 to maximim 2 weeks in the up market places like, le meridien, tongsai bay, buriraya etc. not more!
