I fly - it's a 45 minute flight, and then a 45 minutes courtesy shuttle drive / ferry ride to your hotel. Bangkok Air services KC (Trat) and tickets are roughly 5000 Baht r/t (2500 one-way).
One the other hand, not much p4p or sleaze there - so if that's a necessity, you *can* find it, but that's not the main purpose of KC.

You should try Krabi. Easily reachable by air. A few higher end hotels but I'd recommend a guesthouse on Ao Nang beach (closer to the strip).
Krabi has great scenery rivaled only by Phuket.
