Wow... Guy F. Lombardo that's going way back, haven't heard that name in years. Hope you enjoy the test drive and naturally all test results have to be scrutinized for angle of the dangle flow ratio's.

Update on the incident that started this thread... I have received an email from the chap that had his head kicked in whilst at 'Tong's bar' in Udonthani (and no I don't own a bar or live near Udonthani, so no axe to grind, the trhead was started due to a FR on incidents in Pattaya). Seems that he had paid his bar tab and started to go on his way when he was attacked from behind causing him to fall to the ground, where upon several (he does not know how many), guys proceeded to kick his head in. He went to the hospital who advised him to go back to his country of origin as quickly as possible, since the damage done to his eyes, nose, checkbones and teeth were not something they could handle here. Consequently, after a breif stay in a Bangkok hospital he was air ambulanced out the country and repatriated. The damage: Lost sight in one eye. jaw wired up. half his teeth missing nose smashed and needs further surgery. I asked surely you did something wrong... He reiterated that he had been there with friend's who had a couple of drinks and left, he had a couple more and only spoke to another Farang and then decided to leave, he has no idea why he was victimised and said he was not drunk. If he is right then a rise in this type of violence looks like it is on the rise, as this is not the first incident there and after dark in Udonthani is becoming a risk.

Could also very well be that someone had a beef with another farang, and hired some folks to beat him up, and they just got the wrong farang (you know, they all look the same). Seriously, the fact that there was a pile-up indicates more to me that it might not have been a random hate crime, but rather a deliberate contract, with the wrong victim. I read about that in other threads (some guy who got beaten up in Thermae). Harry

Hi hzink, Yeah, you may well be right that this chap was in the wrong place and was mistaken for someone else, as although other incidents have happened at this bar they were pretty minor in comparison. The damage was so severe the Doctors thought he'd been in a car crash and could not believe that he'd been beaten up. Just a reminder that not everything is all smiles in LOS, always good to have friend with you just in case. Take all.

Depends what you define as a Tuk Tuk... My definition is 'a three wheeled buggy and I use Tuk Tuk as a generic description,' but I agree the transportation is different from say Bangkok and is more motorcycle orientated with a cab fitted on the back, so what would you call them?
FWIW, they are called "sky labs" even in Thai, it is the same name. The guy who started making them in Udon was obviously a creative sort!

They use a similar type in Seim Reap Cambodia, it's a two wheeled covered trailor towed behind a moped/moror cycle and can carry 3 persons. I only used them for the short journey pub to hotel and would not fancy using one for a longer journey as the exhaust fumes are driven into the trailor. In the PI the moto taxis have sidecars for the 2 passengers which feal a lot safer and you dont get gassed from the fumes from that moto, just from the fumes of all the rest. I much prefer a proper A/C cooled taxi when ever I can get one, all types of open modes of transport suck in too much filth for me.
