Hi Youngexpat, yeah I know the Royal Lanna is a high rise - I've stayed there.
Trying to get info on the low rise place I described near the bottom of Loh Kroh, near the moat - it's right next to the row of small beer bars at the bottom of Loh Kroh - and it's definitely not the Royal Lanna or the Lanna Palace.
Could've sworn I saw a sign saying Lanna Lodge but I've no further info.

Staying at Royal Princess right now and if this is amongst the best in CM - its worrying! Worn, torn and a generally rundown place. Dont rate it higher than a 3 - at the very best.
So if one want to stay in CM and not play backpacker - where the heck to go??
BTW: What has McDonalds really done to our youth?! As I watch these young people from the west I am really disturbed to see that so many are fat, chubby and with no excercise at all to their bodies - and they are in their 20īs!! Very scary.

further down the road, there is Suriwongsi Hotel or the Park Hotel. quite good location and clean room.

Hey Guys looking to get up to Chaing Mai late June with my TGF. Would love a hotel around the 800 - 1200 mark but don't have a clue where to stay. I gonna surf the net to see what to do when in CM but any of you guys shed some light on a possible hotel and or how to spend some time in CM? For obvious reasons I am staying clear of go go's etc. I just wanna spend some quality time with her.

I have stayed at the Porn Ping Hotel (the Tower/newer Wing) for the last 3 years at about 1100B per night. It is clean, the breakfast is okay, and it is easy to get around from there. It is very close to the Night Bazaar, but there is no noise from there. The noise you might hear is from the Bubbles Disco that is right outside the hotels doors, but in general it is quiet and quite fine for the price.

As per previous posts I would recommend the Royal Lanna. I have stayed in the Porn Ping Towers as well but found the Royal Lanna much better value for money - IMHO the room was way better.
