Has anyone been to Club Utopia in Chaweng lately?
Does it still exist?
Any recommendations?
Is this the only such place in Samui?
Anyone know the bar fine for the GGGirls & BarGirls in Chaweng?

I heard it closed down but I dont know if that was a rumour. Will find out for sure next week as Im visiting a couple of people next week. Bar fines to months ago rom the only two go-gos I know of in Chaweng were similar to Phukets bar fines. Lamai was considerably cheaper and the talent better.

Were you talking about the Coral Bay Resort that I posted above? I have never stayed there, but did get to look it over once. Seemed pretty nice.

coral cove chalet is about 10 min ride from chaweng and 5 min ride to lamai. nicer than the coral cove resort and bay. prices starting from thb 2,000 for a bungalow.
very nice atmosphere!

Just curious, were you referring to the Coral Bay Resort that is north of Chaweng when you metioned "coral cove resort and bay".

Currently staying at Chaveng Cove Resotel. The price of the standard room is 1550 baht incl. ABF. To my impression this is overprized. The room I have is towards a loud street, on my floor families with crying kids and you have to queue for the breakfast. Nothing special really. The private safe is a joke. You ll have to spend 20 baht every time when opening or closing it. So the coins one has to insert into the safe box are not a deposit but are actually lost.

So I will switch to the Chaweng Gardens Beach Bungalows either in the single standing Bungalows or the hotel building. It does give a better impression to me and does only cost 900 baht (without breakfast). Moreover it is closer to the center of Chaveng and yet quiet.
Anyone stayed there already?

Latino99...

you may want to consider a place I stayed called "Long Beach Lodge" Bungalows - opposite McDonalds, but obviously set back v close to the beach.

I paid last year (Feb) 1800 baht per night.

It took me, at a steady pace 10 minutes to walk to the main bars.

Be aware the the Beachcomber Hotel is not girl friendly

I'm planning a trip to KS in late November. What's the rain like at that time of year? Is it scattered showers or are there whole days where it doesn't stop? Also, how important are a/c bungalows? Would a fan be enough or does it get too hot?

Maybe I can recommend also a great place at Chaweng beach, where I have stayed more then 10 times. It is called Chaweng Coral Resort also known as “Da PaPa”. This place is 100 meters from the beach and 200 meters from the main street. The entrance to the resort is 150 meters into the direction of the airport calculated from Soi Green Mango, so in the middle of the night live area. The resort is relatively quite and has their own swimming pool and beach bar. It is girl friendly and very clean. It has normal wooden bungalows and also apartments (my favorite because of mosquito control).

The apartments come with a safe, fan, air-condition, hot/cold shower, refrigerator and satellite TV and are specious. I normally pay 1200 Baht but prices might fluctuate slightly depending on the season. The bungalows I am not too familiar with, but I recall prices of 900 baht for an aircon place. No safe in those bungalows but there are deposit boxes by the reception. The resort has its own website if you want to check it out.

I will fly to Samui on the 17th April (yes in 2 days) and will stay till 6th May, PM me if one of the bro’s wants to meet for a cold one.

Thanks for the tips. I am staying now at Chaweng Beach Gardens. It is really o.k. and a bargain. The rooms are big, quiet, clean and equipped with a TV and minibar. The price is o.k. (900 baht without breakfast). Green Mango is in walking distance, although I prefer the reggae pub until ca. half past midnight. From of then the awful spanish DJ in the reggae pub only plays techno beats. The same sounds every evening and out of date morover. This guy is a complete loser. He destroys all the atmosphere there and doesnt even notice it.

Only disadvantage of Chaweng Gardens Beach (although not their fault) is perhaps that in this beach area there are a lot of mosquitos. Had plenty of them in my room. I sprayed the rooms with anti-mosquito spray in the afternoon and the problem was resolved . Had a quiet night.

If you are anxious about mosquitos consider to bring a moskito-net. I forgot mine at home. Havent found a place where to buy them here. Anyway, mosquitos dont seem to be a concern at Koh Samui. I asked a local for Dengue fever. He told me that this wouldnt be a problem at Samui.
