I am going to Thailand in Dec. and the gf wants to go up North and has her mind set on Sisaket.
I checked it out on the web and it looks like there is NOTHING there. Will I even see another westerner there? What about Ubon Ratchathani? Is this a better place? Any westerners there?
Any suggestions on hotels at either of these places?? Any places to party at either of them?
Thanks for any advice or help.

I assume that your GF is from Sisaket then. Have you been upcountry before? Be prepared for a culture shock mixed with a few laughs, head scratching and reality check.
Take a lot of cash.
PS The simple answer to all your questions is no.

Go for Ubon Ratchathani: more cultural attractions & more fun
MPs at the hotels in the centre of the town are the places to look for sure action, else, check out the local discos/pubs in the evening....
Some nice half blood Viet things are to be seen in Ubon....

C'mon, he's not looking for girl action - he's going with his girlfriend, and he has no need for anything else - right?
Jake, why would you be going there? You'll be with your girlfriend, so assuming she speaks good English, you should be fine. If she's from there, she will know where a good hotel, or places to hang out, are.

Ubon has a small nightlife scene with a gogo and some other bars for take away. The MPs are also a reasonalbe option. Sisaket is to small and not farang oriented. But in a small street near the railway station you will find Karaokes and a massage joint where full service is available. If you speak thai you can try your luck in the evening at the railway station.
But if you go with your girl friend to Si Saket I would not recommend to butterfly. You will hurt her and make her loose her face.

Thanks for all the help guys. I just figured Ubon would be a safe bet to kick back and relax as I want to get away from all the tourist traps for a while.
