Pantawee Hotel...Nong Khai...north/east LOS on Laos border.
Situated at 1049 Haisoke Rd, Nong Khai, in the centre of town and is well known up this way. Ten minute walk to the bus station. Girl friendly, just show ID.
It has around 120 serviced room's from 350b (bungalow's) to 1500b and room's have a large bed and clean, no complaint's from me. A small swimming pool, 25' long. 24hr food/booze service. Very friendly staff, internet (inc in price) in room's. Just around the corner from the market's on the Mekong River, restaurant's and bar's just around the corner.
Nongkhai Grand Hotel is a 20 min walk or 40b by tuk tuk from Pantawee.
BARS.
Largest private bar I found in NK is 'The Meeting Place', less than a 5 min walk from Pantawee, nice people there.
Outback Bar. Five minute walk from Pantawee.
Along the river just past the market's, you will find many small bar's, English, Thai and Oz. Up near Friendship Bridge into Laos (about a klm away) is another large hotel, don't know the name but heard it is very expensive.
This is a friendly country town in LOS. Nightlife is slow, but if you look around you may and will come up across some good looker's up here.

barrafish did you not notice the laminate explosion in the pantawee,
the owner an ageing kratoey will laminate anything,
the royal mekong at 1,200 a night nice hotel but in the middle of nowhere,
try soi tan for a local 300 baht shag, cover up as aids is rife,
come out the pantawee turn left, and left on prajak road, keep going until you see the shell pump on your right,
oppisite is a doctors surgery and next to it is an archway go through that and theres a place on the right further down on the left is another, and so on,

The Pantawee is one of Oldtimer's favorite up country hotels...lot of character and very comfortable. And yes Nong Khai is a very pleasant and laid back little town..

Your directions are right, thanks. But they have removed the 'Shell' sign, and still operating the gas station with no name.
Down that little soi, which goes to Meechai Rd, are the places you described. The first one on the R.H.S., is down about 40yds on the corner of another little soi that run's off to the right. The other one is further down on the left.
Quoted 600b for 1 hr massage inc sex from the 3 tooth mammasan, had a look at the girl's and had to say "no". Maybe if I had 10-15 beer's under my belt I may have considered, but when sober, no way.
The ageing Katoey at Pantawee is a bit of a card, and yes plenty of laminate around, lol. One of the receptionist's is a lovely bit of lady, she received a box of chocolate's today from a little fish.

I stayed at this hotel during a visa run to Laos, it's a far better value for accommodation than anything you'll find in Vientiane, so well worthwhile to spend the night there and cross the river in the morning. I think I paid about 600, and the broadband internet was a great feature.
