Both Hyatt and Hilton are full for the Christmas period. Only Marriott offers rooms and that is suspicious to me. Can anyone share his experience with this hotel? Is it really within walking distance from Bintabaht soi? Does it have a nice pool?

These hotels are all next to each other and in walking distance to Hua Hins (poor) nightlife area... Marriot is the most attractive of the three, cause it's a beautiful large colonial style building complex in a gourgeous park like surrounding... Hilton hosts the only night spot club thing worth going. Hyatt ? Donno... Just my humble 5 Satang...

KK I have never stayed at Marriott but I believe it is an easy walk to SB. There is a web site called huahinafterdark.com which provides plenty of HH info.

Thanks for the info. That Hua Hin site had enough information about this hotel. I have stayed at Hyatt twice in the past and it is absolutely fantastic spot to take 3-4 days rest between two Bangkok 'invasions'. But I do not even remember seeing Marriott there. It is probably further down from Sofitel as I understood from the map.

Guys...WTF ??? The Marriott in Hua Hin is nowhere near Soi Bintabaht, and certainly not walking distance unless you want a 20-30 minute brisk walk. It is South of Bintabaht on the main drag through Hua Hin, you will definetly need to use either a tuk tuk or your own vehicle to go into the 'town' area, it is not a short walk ! I also found the service here to be crappy, mostly package tour patrons. Sofitel is absolutely amazing and far better than the Marriott, never stayed in the Hilton but the disco bar can be fun.

Upps, awfully sorry, in my comment I mixed Marriot and Sofitel! So: Sofitel is the nice colonial style hotel and Sofitel, Hilton and Hyatt are next to each other and in the city center! Dunno about Marriot. Awfully Sorry

Sorry, MTK, but Hyatt is not in town either . It is at least in 15-20 min driving distance from the center. Seems like Marriott is something like 4 star even though they want $220+ for Jan 2-5th, 2007. Will probably book it and spend a night there. If I do not like it I can always come back to Bkk on the next day.

KK, you made me check all my info on these hotels I'm not interested in at all... I was several times in the only nice hotel in Hua Hin (imho) called Baan Bayan. But that's because I avoid the huge hotel chains like Hilton and Hyatt like the plague... Baan Bayan is a 10 min tuk tuk ride from the city center, or - even better - a 20 min walk on the beach... From my way into town walking the beach I remember another big brand hotel between Baan Bayan and the center which was probably the Mariott, I would guess a 5 min *walk* more than the "15-20 min driving distance " you mentioned... This website gives you a good idea about Hua Hin hotel locations... The Sofitel could make me break my principles though - been there for a cup'a tea LOL and it's quite nice for such a huge brand name hotel. Have a look at this. Still dunno any about the Hyatt

MTK, no probs KK, whats the attraction for you at Hua Hin ? I only ask as some bro's may be able to point you in a better direction. For me Hua Hin is a nice, quiet town, nice beaches, clean sea, and as I mention, I like the Sofitel, BUT the drive down is a total ball ache, the roads are under heavy construction, every 20km or so you will see a lorry in the ditch between the 2 directions of traffic, or a bus on its side, the road is aweful, what should take 1.45hrs, takes anywhere between 2.30 and 3.30 depending on rain, its not a nice journey, but will be once they finish the roads. On the other hand, head down the other side of the Gulf from bangkok and the Sofitel Garden Cliff in Pattaya is a very nice hotel, away from all of the bar and girl scene, its scenic and tranquil, on the sea, but with a nice pool, menu is limited though, but you can be here in little under 1.30hrs. As I said, it depends on what you're looking for, but I wouldn't bother with Hua Hin and the Marriott for only 1 night.

Thanks Meatywsg. I have just checked and they have rooms for Jan 2-5th at $150. So that is the possibility that I will look at for sure. Though the attraction of Hua Hin for me is a private beach and pool. Pool of Sofitel Pattaya seems to be quite small. And another thing that worries me is a seaside. How does it look like at this hotel as they do not offer these photos? Is there a really cliff at the shore? I stayed at Hyatt Hua Hin twice in the past and unfortunately I have no chance to get the rooms there for my dates. Marriott Hua Hin worries me as well. it is a pity but for the New Year time I need to pre-arrange everything in advance.
