I have already posted my biggest warning about Ayodhaya Suite Resort & Spa which is probably the worst pc of s-t "hotel" I have ever walked into! Dont go there is my very serious advice! Read my report about it instead and generally be careful when booking hotels on the web! I have learned that lesson now!
Ok - so we walked out of that toilet and searched for a new place. Ended up in something called Vogue Resort and Spa. Better rooms but I did not get the feeling for it. Will post separately about it but in general - overpriced and with many odd and not so nice glitches. For instance: forget pool where it is totally packed with falangs and their screaming kids. I was the only one there with a thai GF and the stares we had! Some women looked at us/me with utterly dismay (and the men when equally jealousy!) Are they just racist or just find something odd with a fit 50 yo and his 20 yo GF?!?!
Which seems to be the case with entire Krabi. I will not go any further discovering it - since will not return again! Just as Phuket and some other charther tourist overloaded places it is not really being in Thailand - at least not to me. Others may find it perfect. But my idea of the country is not going to a circusarena with millions of naive falangs mainly from my own country it seems, that walks in bars, restaurants and shops with their shirts off and 25 kg bellys hanging out. It is disgusting and I dont understand what they are thinking with.
To top of that you see also a lot of falang women taking the top of at the beach displaying their disgusting hanging fatbags some would call "tits" - I just label it as people not having one braincell to think with and just TRYING to realise they are guests in a Buddist country where you just dont do that! Idiots!
Ok- there is a decent beach at Ao Nang, however seems to a bit dirty and in need of cleaning. Reailly beach is better and still better is to take one of the boats for the day and visit some island - Koh Gai is not bad. Snorkling is always fun and lots of colorful fishes to watch.
You can also see the magnificent rocks raising from the water. So nature is beautiful - but is that enough after a couple of days? No - not for me. The whole thing is displaying the worst sides of thai behaviour. Everyone is there to make quick money and service and behaviour is amongst the most sorrylooking I have seen in this country.
In Bkk a Big Mac menu is 99 baht. In Krabi it is 125 and that is a graphic picture that goes through everything! Prices inflated and what you get for it is not to be happy over. Food is at most places we visited less than good. A place called "Tantas" is the one to first of all avoid! I asked the "waiter" if my thai chicken dish was cooked by a falang and he replied that it was a thai cook. I suggested they change the chef since the one they had was useless. Was a bit amusing to see the prick becoming a real little asshole and wanted to start a fistfight! Also interesting to hear GF and him exchange some really nasty thai words! But that is the basics of the place - quickly hand over your money to all people with their greedy hands stretched out - but dont expect to get much for it!
As for me Phuket, Pattaya and now Krabi is out of the question to visit again - but of course it is nice to go to a pleasast beach resort - somewhere - so now I am a little bit unknowing about where to go next!
This is MY point of view and many of you may enjoy it. BUT be VERY careful with how you choose hotel and equally picky when you go out for dinner. Bars are bars and I can finally say that the "scene" seem to be totally non-existant except for a small strip where I saw some 3-5īs working- really not worth going there for!

In Pattaya it's also more expensive and guess what.... in Khao San (which caters to budget minded people) too!
It must have something to do with transporting all those hamburgers....

Same in Koh Samui. not just burgers, Starbucks coffee cost more too, even the prices of petrol there, as it needs to get shipped there.

Railay is all farang tourists, almost all couples. Phi Phi is also all farang tourists, although some singles there. A TG in tow with a farang will feel and look out of place in either of these places.
And Joffe is right, Ao Nang is oriented to tourists. That said, there is some good food there and there is also a set of about 20 beer bars about the center of the beach road that have a few cute girls. And they are good to go. So if you are at Ao Nang or Railay for a few days of farang holiday but still want to get some TG poontang, it is not a problem.
With a TG, I'd give any of these places a pass.

I've found Ao Nang to be one of the friendliest places in Thailand, with some of the best food. Sounds like the hotel went wrong for you and you decided that this was going to be the theme of your trip.
Of course people are going to stare at a 50yo bloke with a 20yo girlfriend, fit or not. Thailand is known as a hookers paradise so they instantly assume you have bought a hooker to the pool.
You slagged of older folks for their fat guts and saggy tits then become all indignant the someone is having a ago at you. Wake up son!
This is just a place to vent and whinge for you buddy so let it all hang out.

Try Koh Chang... Also EuroTourists, but far more on the down low, and not as 'touristy'.
Just spend a good week there, and had nothing but good experiences...

I concur with Daffy...I havent been to ko chang since late 2004 and things may of changed a bit but its my favorite island..
I did have a good time on my recent trip to ko samet...would have gone to ko chang but only had 2 nights to spare and it was a bit far..but next trip I am definitly working ko chang into the itenerary..
regarding Krabi, I went 2 times for work when I lived in thailand...both times I got the hook up at the resorts I was signing up (chateau de loei) the high rock mountains are really cool but overall it didnt give me the feeling that the islands do...
Jojje, just chalk it up as a lesson learned and mai pen lai..

I was told by a good friend years ago, that it's not the place you are that makes you happy, it's the person you are
and it seems to me, you aren't happy anywhere
and Samet and Ko Chang are quite different, for one thing, you can't take your vehicle over to Samet on the ferry in Samet, but you can in Ko Chang
I prefer Samet, it rains too often in Ko Chang, which is in Traht province, two provinces over from Rayong, where Samet is
