Reading Trink this week was final straw.New regulations don't sound very jolly.I've got my 90day multiple entry visa and two way ticket,but miss the freedom of 6 years ago when I started spending most of the year in LOS.Can one find long term rentals in Pnohm Phen.Anyother suggestions in Asia or Africa for inexpensive carfree retirement.Sri Lanka?Bengladesh?

Stay out of both Indo and PI. My sources tell be that the coup in PI is still on, probably in the November timeframe but that will change if Arroyo announces for Pres, then you can expect a immediate massive uprising (80% of Manila is against her).
As for Indo, JW Marriott, recent intel from the US, UK, and OZ, all tell a story that we are not really welcome there now. A friend of mine had all of her Singaporian employees quit her Jakarta company en-masse last week.

If you are serious about a new location, Try Argentina you will discover a wonderful place with many of the attractions of SE Asia including the P4P and the prices although not as cheap as Asia are very pleasent.

ive havent been to thailand yet and so im not sure of how much some 'inny-outy' action would cost, but i can tell you that amsterdam isnt the cheapest place in the world. it wasnt a few years ago and since the death of the guilder its even more expensive.

The Amsterdam scene is not what it was since prostitution was finally legalised in 2000. The price of a perfunctory "suck and f***" is 25 Euros. However, some of the massage parlours offer good service, and some offer the opportunity to come more than once in a session. Others even advertise that anal sex is available.

Was in Jakarta just 5 weeks ago (just before the bombing) and its still a great place for P4P. A few risks (but managable) and no different to anywhere else, if you want to have fun. If you want to sit at home, "Then they win".
No problem being an Oz or Brit in Jakarta and no personal risks late at night, in the more commonly frequented P4P areas. To the boys in the US, you might want to think about changing your citizenship.
There is still a shit load of Oz, Brits, French, Germans etc playing in the bars, nighclubs and at the Blok well into the wee hours of the morning and you would need a good crystal ball to know where the next one is going off.
In my humble view, the risks in Thai, PI and Indo (with numbers of expats congregating in bars) is now about equal. In fact probably highter in Thailand, given the greater numbers of expats /tourist that go there, plus the fact that they haven't had one yet.
My opinion, go there (Jak/Bali) in the weeks after, as lightning is unlikely to strike in the same place twice, at least not in two consecutive weeks. Plus you get better accomodation and P4P deals.

It has got to be safer than Saudi where I am currently working although I commute from Bahrain these days.
Watch the news too much and you wouldn't leave your house.
