Can anyone actually point to reports of people being fined $5000 and thrown out for sleeping with a girl?
I know it is not legal but many things are not legal.

I was just in Vientiaine and I had no problem finding girls or taking them to my room. The karaoke bars are full of girls, or just sit outside in the evening and invite a girl to sit with you.
After three strikeouts (one was way too young, 19 she said, I think she was much younger; another was a virgin working at the karaoke bar and only plied drinks from customers, and another was on the rag), I took one to my hotel and the staff only came up to me to check my room key. I talked with a cop who even helped me get a girl and he said there was no problem taking a girl. I paid the girl $25 for all night and that was high -- usually $10. All the girls were HOT.
Go the the Mekong Hotel, and to the right of the dance stage there is a room with many girls inside. Just pick one, have a beerlao, dance, and enjoy.
I stayed at the Lane Xang Hotel. It was okay, not great.

3 strikeouts in Vientiane, but it was all very good fun on the prowl -- no regrets at all. In the end it all worked out.
In Luang Prabang, if the Tuk Tuk drivers can't help you, go to the Muangswa Hotel. There is a disco in the back and it is NO problem getting a hot girl. I was in ther for 5 minutes before some one asked me "Lao Lady?". I said sure, and this incredible 19 year old joined me for company. $30 was the asking price, and $30 it was including the $5 tip. I'm telling you -- she was quite the dish.

I rode up to the front of the Lane Xang on the back of my girl's motorbike at 1AM, walked in the front door, fumbled around by the elevator for my keys, the desk clerk came up asking about my room number, I told him the number and then he walked away, and my girl and I went up and she stayed all night. I asked her before we went in if it was okay and she said no problem. I asked the Lao guy I partied with if it was okay and he also said no problem.

To add some detail to my earier post, the first place I went to for a girl was unintentional. I asked my tuk tuk driver to take me somewhere to drink Beerlao where falangs weren't hanging out and where Lao people were drinking. He misunderstood and took me down some back street and into a nondescript place where I was set up with some very young girl. We drank a few Beerlao before I left and tipped her for her time. It was a bit sketchy, but appeared quite safe nonetheless. Later I sat outside by the river drinking Beerlao and two guys (a US falang and a Lao) asked me where I was from and if I had sampled the local flavor -- something they said shouldn't be missed. They asked me to their table and then as the girls flowed in and out of the nearby karaoke bar, we invited two of them to join us. After a few drinks and some food, we all went into the karaoke bar for some fun. It was all drinking and a lot of touching (hand holding, leg rubbing, etc) before the Lao guy informed me that my girl (beautiful!) didn't go with customers, so then we left to the Mekong Hotel.
The karaoke place is where the main riverside road turns right, away from the river, with the river on your left. The road continues along the river but it is dirt. The main road remains paved.
There is no problem getting a girl at the Mekong. As I mentioned in an earlier post, if you don't find what you want on the dance floor or elsewhere, go to a room to the right of the dance floor (the door was closed -- just walk in). There were about 10 girls there, I just pointed to one and she joined me (beautiful!). After a while the Lao guy told me that I had to wait until tomorrow because she was on her period. So, I took a girl (beautiful!) from the dance floor and we left for the hotel. I set the alarm for 6AM, we woke at 6 for more fun, she showered, left and that was that.
Lots of fun to be had in Laos.

Lao girls place hopes on bridge

Savannakhet - Female sex workers here are hoping business improves after the second Thai-Lao friendship bridge linking Thailand's Mukdahan and this southern Lao border province opens for actual use next month. They believe the bridge will attract people from all over the world to their town, including the 84 nightspots where they work.
Even though prostitution is considered illegal in the country, some illiterate and poor Lao women have taken up the job because they lack other means to make an income.
An unofficial survey of health workers in this province found that around 300-400 Lao women are working as sex workers. Most are natives while some are from other nearby Lao provinces such as Vientiane, Khammoune and Borikhamxai. Many Vietnamese women are also here.
Kaewmala Seehajit, a 30-year-old sex worker of Ban Phak Pathumporn Resort, has been in the trade for 10 years.
She is the breadwinner for her family that includes a seven-year-old daughter and aging parents.
''I have to work as a sex worker as I have no education and am poor,'' Mrs Kaewmala said.
She is among 25 sex workers at the resort, and earns about 1,500-2,000 baht a night.
Her income, she said, was not enough to cope with the rising cost of living.
''When the second Thai-Lao friendship bridge opens to the public next month I will have a chance to make money from more customers,'' she said.
Most customers were Thai and Lao truck drivers, businessmen and tourists. She occasionally went out with foreign tourists from western countries.
''Over the past few months the number of customers has dropped. Some nights I do not have even a single customer. I don't know what's happening to the province's tourism,'' she said.
Another sex worker at Dao Rung restaurant, Oui Chaiyawong, 28, said she was saving money to send to her parents in Vientiane.
''My parents are building a new house there,'' she said.
Oui has been working as a sex worker for three years. She makes 4,000-5,000 baht per night going out with at least two customers.
Suk Pangkaewmolee, 32, a madam at Rung Thip restaurant, said all sex workers under her care dreamed of making more money after the bridge opened.
She said many restaurants and resorts had been done up to welcome tourists who may visit or stop over en route to Vietnam via Highway No. 9, which cuts through the province.
However, the sex workers were concerned over the possible outbreak of sexual diseases, especially HIV/Aids. Many attended a workshop organised by Thai and Lao health officials and the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand this week to learn how to protect themselves. Panom Phongmany, deputy director of Savannakhet Provincial Health Department, said sex workers must demand their customers use a condom.

Nice to know the backroom at the Mekong Hotel is still up and running. It's where I found my 1st Lao lady some years ago. My partner in crime and I were escorted to that infamous room to pick a couple of ladies. It was a classic moment, as I was new to SE Asia. We walked into the room to a sea of Lao ladies, must have been about 50 ladies sitting at (what I remember to be) card tables filling the room. The disco itself had been very dark, so it took a moment to get adjusted to the bright fluorescent lights. Deer in the headlights. They all looked up at us, wondering who we would choose. I saw one tiny, petite thing in the back looking at me, and joking with her friend about how I looked (too hansumm, perhaps?).
So I picked her, and my buddy picked another. I knew I was in for a treat, because as we climbed into the tuk-tuk back to the hotel, my lady smacked me on the butt and laughed.
When we got back to the hotel, I realized just how tiny she was. Barely up to my shoulder, and couldn't have been more than 90 lbs. At the time, I'd been working out with weights, and the next couple of hours were a pornographic and gymnastic daze, lol. I remember at one point carrying her around the room impaled on my Johnson. We both got a big laugh out of that.
I still have her photo, and it brings back great memories of my first night in Vientiane.
