Come next month, the Skipper will be residing on the outer fringes of Seoul for at least the next two years. Ho yeah!!! Just a little jazzed about it. Uh-huh

LOL Yeah, two people I spoke with, last week, in separate conversations no less, mentioned that smell. Both said the garlic smell hit them as a first impression in the airport of all places.
No sweat! I'll be a worst offender by week one: no such thing as too much garlic, if you ask me.

You'll soon be eating kimchi with every meal and have the same garlic smell yourself unless you're always popping breathe mints.
Hongdee and Itaewon are your basic night life areas. Korean women are indeed beautiful and frequently stuck up, but not always. Itaewon has Flip bars that cater to US Army troops from Yongsan and on passes from the DMZ. It's also home to the infamous King Club where FLs or just Korean women looking for a date can be found.
Cheapest and most assured option is the double pole barber shops where a massage and a screw and the option to crash overnight there is about 60K Won. The glass houses in Suwon and Pyongtaek have some knockouts but they won't give you the time of day if there are too many Korean men around.
Get a survival Korean phrasebook, you'll need it, and once you learn Hangul script (you can do it in about 5 days) you'll be able to use public transport with ease. The city of Songtan near Osan Air Base has (had?) a really good BG scene, but it's expensive. You'll have the run of that strip after midnight on weekdays and 2AM on weekends when the GIs have to get home or on base for their curfew. A hotel around there is about US $40 so I'd recommend visiting now and again.
Enjoy, wish I was going there myself.

5 days to learn Hangul, Black Cats?
More like 5 hours. You can learn it in an afternoon and remember it for life too. I've been out of Korea for almost 4 years now and I still remember how to read and write the language.
Mind boggling easy it is. Speaking is a different matter....
