Hahaha...great report dude! Brings back memories of my trip to Saigon last year especially the part where one nite it's "I hate Vietnam" to "God! I love Vietnam". Hin,I haven't been in Nam for several years but get monthly up dates from my large list of Viet and Aussie friends who visit.
You won't have trouble finding gals but you Will over pay (for everything) if you lack any of the language.
The Vietnamese are a warm and friendly people,but they're also more than happy to rid you of extra cash that may be burning holes in your pockets. One of my best early trips was greatly assisted when I befriended one of the hotel workers,,his name was Thao,,,no gay jokes PLEASE. After me inviting him and his girlfriend for dinner and him learning I was trustworthy,he was a great help in opening the non-tourist side of Saigon.
On day 6,I asked about the hair-cut BBBJ that is famous in Saigon,,,,his face went a little red but he said,no problem,i get friend take you that place. A MAGNIFICIENT few hours for US$10,plus US$10 for the friend who escorted me.Thao also showed me where to get a localbreakfast (he was absolutely shocked that I was paying $US 10 for breakfast at the hotel. This local restaurant had GREAt food but everything written in Vietnamses,,,but pictures beside the description.I'd get fried eggs / toast coffee, several different breads/cakes a bowl of famous PHO BO (beef noodle soup) and walk out under $3.
Anyway,,enough reminiscing.
Make friends with one of the bell-hops, remember they are POOR,,your shout for dinners etc and you'll have a great time.
If worse comes to worse, jump in a taxi and say,,Toi muon em dep lum,,, if you get a quizzicle look,, toi tick em ga, will straighten it out ( although the first option is MUCH more polite).
Liberty 4 hotel is niceand located in district 1 and thus close to most of the action.
