Greetings,
I just spent 3 nights in HCMC and had difficulty communicating with the local population. I was travelling with my wife so I did not have the chance to hire a local dictionary / lady to assist me. However I will be returning in a couple of days and will be on my own. I will not be in HCMC but most likely in Vung Tau on and off for the next 3 months. I would appreciate any basic Vietnamese that may be available from the members for essentials after dark. I looked for phrase books while I was there and I was unable to find anything. I plan to post some field reports based on my experiences, and some local phrases will help.

Vietnemses is a lot easier to learn than Thai.
except for the needed dental work, 90 % of Viet gals are far better looking.
It's been a while,, but I have travellled in many parts of Vietnam,, so if you want a bit of help, or a hotel suggestion, just ask.

Forgot,,, Lonely planet Vietnam book is a great starter,,, non original copies can be had in HCMC for under US$2.
If your after a translator,, look around the main post office,, District 1 HCMC. I found a very helpful man there,, ex Aus army support, fluent in English / French and as cause Viet,, couple of dollars a day.
