Had one of the best vacations ever in Indonesia about 10 years ago. Went white water rafting and had some of the best food and massages there. Its unfortunate, there's no way I'm going back and supporting a country whose leader (VP) advocates the demise of 3000 innocent Americans. I didn't know that until now. I'm sick of all this heat on the US - people need a scape goat for their problems and America is an easy target being on top in terms of economic and political power.

Anyway, most people in Indonesia are not (yet) islamic fanatics, better to provide a better option for them instead of isolating and let the mullahs take over.

how can we give muslim people another option dutch? most of them are told what to think and feel by dictators or religious fanatics. maybe by creating a true democracy in iraq that can be a shining example to the islamic world we can give them the option to choose for themselves.
i dont know much about pym fortune (is that how i should spell his name?) but he was labelled a racist and a neo nazi in britain. wasnt he just a gay man who was afraid that many muslim people would not tolerate hollands liberal lifestyle and cause trouble?

The recent bombings have coused Indonesia a major problem in their tourist industry, not only on Bali but throughout Indonesia people are loosing money and buisness. If you can spin this so the people believe that those extremists actualy are the country's biggest threat, the problem might be over soon.

Thats what was said in Holland about Maggie Thatcher, Pim fortuin mainly adressed some things that 75% of the population thought but was a political taboo.
We are having problems with high levels of crime, domestic violence and racists/sexists attacks by some minority groups. And as nothing was being done aout it it grows worse.
Better to adress a problem even if people are offended and solve it then look the other way imo.

Please provide a reference.
Indonesia certainly has its problems but it wouldn't stop me from visiting.
Nor would i boycott products based on the comments of any politician.
People from the US seem overly sensitive to any comments or criticisms about their govenments policies.
The average person doesn't give a toss about these things.
For the most part people are the same the world over .
They want to make money and enjoy their lives.

Sensitive - yes. I think many Americans are just sick of being shit on for everything nowadays (it feels like it has become PC to become a hater of the US - especially IN the US). The country definitely isn't perfect and has some serious flaws in certain aspects but the country and the world for that matter are a work in progress. Once your country has planes full of citizens running into the buildings, terrorists sending videos of hate and threats, anthrax going through the mail system, and smuggling busts concerning shoulder fire rockets, you begin to become sensitive to what people are saying about your country. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but things like that change the way a country thinks.
I made a mistake and spoke to soon about not going back to Indonesia. I shouldn't blame an entire country based on what one person says (even if he is the second in charge of the nation). I would be a hypocrite if I did such a thing. I agree that the majority of Indonesia's citizens could care less about America and just want to live their lives free from all this BS. I will make another visit there someday - but not until things get somewhat better. You know.. most average working Americans just want is to be liked around the world. You can say money is also a huge factor (for big businesses) but for the average US person that's how most of them feel.

Interesting... In some sense that could be true. I'm not sure what to think anymore. All I know is that if a country defies the world (not just America) 17 different times(resolutions)to clarify weapons we know they had because they've used them (against their own people) then they are in fact one of the roots of the problem concerning terrorism. Scapegoat - maybe, but it sounds logical to deal if you have the means
